Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8

Barrel distortion & vignetting is pretty obvious at 24mm wide open at the edges if you are shooting FX. Even at f8, it's still not as sharp compared to the 14-24mm at 24mm (esp. at the edge). Google it & you'll know. Well, it's an each to it's own lens as a matter of fact. Have fun...

at my last post of the thread, the video explained that not all lens will encounter this issue, so your lens is free from this problem.

anyway, it will not affect the normal use of this lens even a lens do have such problem, why?
if you images are proper exposure, the leak won't be recorded.

to see the light leak you have to set up as that "Professional" photographer do.

but when without lens cap on, before you able to see any light leak from the distant scale window, the light already wash out the photos.

I think Nikon has already rectified that problem on the newer batch of lenses.

How about those buying 2nd hand in the b&s section? how to know if they are previous batch or new batch?

But isn't this a non issue thing. Does it make a difference?:dunno:

Bros, is this lens good for D7000? I am using 18-200mm now for many years... :embrass:

I have a 24-70 and been using it during my wedding shoots.

It is heavy but the image quality is good.
mount on a FX, the range is very usable.

D7000 is DX format. It is certainly good in terms of image quality but the 17-55mm f2.8 DX will gv u a more versatile range for a DX crop camera.

24-70mm lens is good for all nikon bodies. The golden question is whether you are maximising its capabilities.

To add on:

also whether it is suitable for you to always utilize and maximise its capabilities due to heavy weight and bulky size......

I am thinking of getting a new lens - Nikkor 24+70mm f2.8.... anyone using it? or anyone can give a review on it...

You can consider 24-120 f/4 too, as it is smaller, lighter, less expensive, VR2.

couldnt agree more with bruggink and kentwong...although it a very gd lens and weighs almost a kilo, it defeat the purposes if you are going to use it as a walkaround lens and not maximising its abilities...

i hv taken cousins weddings with it, simply superb...getting mine by end of this month cos cousin needs assistance in wedding photoshoots..:D

I have used this with a d3 and it balances pretty well, used it for hours on the streets of Taiyuan without any issue. However I would recommend that you might want to consider this for more important shoots like weddings and portraits and buy a 28-300 mm lens for walk around. I just bought 28-300 from Cathay n it's a great walk around. Don't bother with 24-120f/4.

nice lens, but somehow i found the image quality of the 70-200vrII much better (colour & sharpness) so ended up changing to shooting from further away than previously

I think both is a "must have". :bsmilie:

In terms of versatility, 24-70mm definitely has an upper hand.

i'm using this lens for 2 months on my D90 and conclusion is - AF fast and sharp always. Previously I'm using Tammy 28-75 f/2.8 and have since sold it after getting this nikkor lens. You wont regret after seeing the photos taken with this lens. Only issue to consider is the weight, you need to try with your camera gear 1st before make a final decision. Agreed with uranium2k that this lens is more versatile...

i can't agree more with this...
but i would like to point out a problem that my friend and i face...
which is the lens seemed to front focus when used on DX bodies (we tried on D60 and D90), but when sent for calibration the technician told me there was no problem..
so i took his word for it and it turns out to be true when used on a full frame D700

So...if you are really buying it make sure it doesnt front/back focus

one more thing...i find that my copy flares very badly when it faces street lamps..(yes worse than facing the sun)...any seniors face this problem too? or do i have a bad copy? :dunno:

What do you mean by front/back focus?

I second what the previous poster said re the Tamron 28-75, which I used for about the past 6 months. The difference between the 2 is noticable. I use it with a D700 and find the 24-70 balances the camera out quite beautifully. I don't find it a problem to lug around having just used this on a holiday in Banff and Vancouver. The images you get from it make it all worthwhile.
I am sorry I waited so long to get this lens.

Would it be tiring if lug the D700 + 24-70mm + SB900 speedlite on neck to shoot a wedding dinner for 3 hours?

I use a sunsniper strap. I bought it after a day of walking around the Zoo with the neck strap and a 80-200 2.8 attached to the D700. Never again! ;) I know there are a few options with the side-type straps - they are all going to be much more comfy than the neck strap choking you.
