it depends on your preference. :)

why is a 75-300 bad?

i am not sure what you mean as street photography. elsewhere, it might be a lot easier to reply; street photography is stuff like what matt stuart, hcb, hin chua, david solomon do.. here, however, it seems to be a lot less specific.

anyhow, for that just-mentioned category, focal length of 35-50mm (in 35mm film terms) seems to be the preferred choice of focal length, and for good reason - because this range can be extremely versatile.. you can make it wide if you want, you can make it tight if you want. i myself, i use a 28mm f/2.8 lens primarily for my street work. that'd be 42mm in 35mm film terms.

haha something like what u or dannysantos does defines street photography for me :)
anyway i was wondering if a 17-50mm f2.8 is a good choice.

oh and i think ur pictures are really inspirational! keep shooting! :D

ah. you should take a look at lancey or sathea as well, these two are very good street photographers in their own right.

yes, that is a good choice, it is a nice useful range. i used to use my kit lens for shooting street as well.

the only downside i can think of is lens size. the 17-50 isn't big or humongous. but neither is it small like a prime lens would be. also, some might tell you that the luxury of having a choice of focal length might weaken the skill of being able to previsualise the scene before you've even raised your camera. many a time on the street, you don't really have time to just hold the camera up and compose or wait for a composition. it attracts attention, and you'll just end up taking curious, surprised people wondering what you are doing. something to keep in mind.. :)

that said, 17-50 *is* a good lens that is definitely useful, especially for travel photography. you can get it, even if it doesn't work out for street, i'm sure you'll find a use for it. hope this helps.

thanks for your kind comments.

i'm glad i stayed for quite a while. had company from another pentaxian. like he said, what are the chances of 2 pentaxians meeting each other, since not many people use pentax? :)

a pity you couldn't shoot anywhere, it was really one of the best i've seen so far in singapore.
woah nai meh, really nice picture!

where was this taken?

is there any PP done to the water?

good composition too!:)
well, this is at upper seletar reservoir. you've seen the landscapes thread so you probably know, answering for the benefit of viewers.

slight gaussian blur with layers to reduce noise, slight cloning, i decided to clone away the reflection of the moon, found it distracting.

thanks for dropping by.
very sweee. i want to go too, too :D
