where's the location and how to get there? seems like a nice place to take some pics :P
It is near Botanical Garden... there is a thread about the location, you can find it here.

I really thank for the comments... yap... i actually used CPL and also created another layer on photoshop... mimicing the graduated blue... exactly as you said... (wow... you can tell those from my pics... )... The idea is to give more color contrast... yellow house with the blue bg of the sky... but yes, some of them are looked un-natural... I still need to do more practice on PP...
I will also take note about the dreamy look on #9... :)

i find it hard to transform any white sky into anything interesting. unless it already has some faint pattern that i can force a darkening of highlight, i will just give up on any white sky and avoid them on my framing.

They seems to have destroyed the roof of the istana. So sad to see that. I think i will be going there again real soon before everything becomes a rubble.

The istana had been badly burnt by arson.

wah lau like that call newbie??

bluff pple one.. ;p

That is realy true... normally what kind of file format do you use? I feel that Adobe II has better color range... compared to sRGB I/II... or do you shot RAW? Sometimes, in order to darkening the highlight, the "extra" dynamic range will be helpful...

Hi ngebor ! Wow you are real fast in uploading.
I thought I am the only one with no guts there ;)
Was quite spooked at the workers quarters right at the far end esp the room with one chair right at dead centre, there is also a pail with water dripping down from the roof and the other room still have curtain willowing in the wind......hmmnn

Was hooked on EPL last nite, so can only share this for now.....

last time i used sRGB mode III on nikon D50, now i use Adobe RGB mode II on it. i shoot RAW. but even so i find 6MP not enough and still have noise level in shadow area if i'm to boost it up.

but i know that white sky is white. if there is no color information right at the start, you can't alter nothing, you can only add to nothing. and adding artificially does not give good results unless you are expert in dodging and burning which i'm not. hence i just avoid white sky in my framing.

I'm fully understand about avoiding the white sky into a frame... I'm also not good on burning & dodging (i'm just a photo taker... not an artist... :) )... but sometimes, if we stop down enough, you will get some detail on the sky... with cost of extra noise, when you highlight the shadow...
I'm still learning all of this... and really thanks for your comments and inputs...

Hi Matt,

Thanks for sharing the pics... and also for allowing me to join your group to visit the place...!
realy nice experience, shooting together with all of you....

I remember the swing and the Jaguar, but don't remember a second floor as I was too creeped out to explore much of the interior. I just entered the main door and walked to the end, and didn't see a staircase up. Was this somewhere behind?

mmm... the jaguar and the swing is located in guard post... not the main House... from this post, did you continue walk further following the road around 150m more? I'm afraid that you only visited the guard post, not the "istana".... :(

Aghhh! The guard post was creepy already!

Hi, can share the setting for the HDR in #9? The 0 exposure setting and the number of +/- exposure and their f/stop diff?

Thank you!

Hi,

I didn't do HDR on that shot... single exposure only... but with the help of CPL filter, and I stopped down the exposure -0.67ev... you may check the exif... all are still intact...
During PP, as I described earlier, I create 1 more layer to enhanced the blue color of the sky... finally I add the blur effect... and adjust the opacity/fill...

Thanks for sharing. Woodneuk's pictures never fails to amaze me despite the many shoots performed in the past.

Pic 6 & 9 really works for me!
