Nex 5 images

forgive me la, i am just a newbie who likes toying with my junks such as 1d4, 5d2, 500f4, 85f1.2, 24f1.4, 50f1.2, 100f2.8IS, then somehow i got sick of these list of cheapo junks now, then i start to embark on sony now to toy with the nex-5, so thats why i sprout rubbish here in this forum. And oh... i joined the forum more than 4yrs before you, maybe 4yrs is still too little and inexperienced for me due to my low post counts hmph...

i am sick of all the images captured by the lousy canon L lenses such as 500f4, 85f1.2, 24f1.4, 50f1.2, so i start on the sony nex-5, and i came to this thread in hope i can see images taken by the native nex-5 e-mount system, only to realise a lot of pics taken by non e-mount lenses. pardon my newbie perspective la, since u have 700+ posts, more pro than me..

Chill Bro ! ...In my books, posts count means nothing and the same goes for joining dates and hi-zoot camera equipment.

I'm sorry if I offended you with the term 'newbie', I made that mistake reading your post which kinda hinted that anyone who doesn't shoot a Nex with an E-mount lens is somehow "cheating".

To me, the Nex (with E-mount lens) are just very advance PnS aimed at the PnS upgrader's market, but the fact that the camera's mounting flange allows mounting almost any lense in the world brings it to a different level.

haha.. nice blend of sarcasm .... again, apologies if I was too harsh... but I really only wanted to clarify your stmt :)

Well, the fact is, so far,the NEX only have 3 native lens. one new macro one has been announced. As for the pic quality, I will just say this: the e-mount lens are not fantastic leica or CZ grade photos, but for most situations, they will perform. 16mm f2.8 is known to be a little soft, but looking at this, used correctly, it can perform too:

I am VERY impressed. Great shots! The sweetspot seems to be around 1-3 sec for fireworks

In one of the rooms, all room lights switched off :p

Nice long exposure shot. i havnt got a tripod.. pretty difficult for me to get a nice 1.

Thanks :) I just placed my camera on the floor next to the window. Set my Nex-5 to IR mode and shutter speed to bulb mode. Then Used an IR remote to open and close shutter. The hard part that I'm still trying to learn is when to open and close. Hard to anticipate the fireworks la....

I didn't even realize there was an IR mode! Which remote are you using?

yeah, got IR mode, but heard only Nex-5 have. Nex-3 dun have, and I not sure Nex-C3 have or not, but likely have.

Remote purchased on Ebay from China - US$3.20...

Here's another shot using a Tamron 90 on a NEX C3, but in macro. Its a shot of the tip of a ballpoint pen and some string. A sunblitz macro ring light was attached to the lens.

They are nice shots. Any reason why you used the zoom over the 16mm?

Thanks :)

Cuz the 16mm is known to be 'softer', though stepped down it may be alright... distortion on the sides is greater too... But still, will think abt trying it the next time.

Looking at the sharpness charts on slrgear, the 16mm seems definitely sharper overall than the 18-55 at 18mm. However, the distortion might be unacceptable.

Both taken using the 16mm pancake.

The 16mm pancake is my favorite and it hardly ever leaves the body (of my Nex-5).

1. This one was shot through a very dirty glass window

Hi guys. Just got my NEX 5 2nd hand and I must say that it is quite a nifty cam when paired with good lenses.

Here are some shots from the old KTM depot:
