NEX 5 Battery Life

For me quite ok.

When to tg. Pinang last week, shoot for 2 days without charging it and back to SG with 20+%.

FYI im quite hardcore, i shoot what i see over there. LOL.

True, the battery depletes quite fast as compared to my ex GF-1 and EP-1.

Sorry if it's OT.

I'm curios to know why you chose NEX5 over the GF1 & EP1. I'm looking to retire my old Nikon D50 with one of these. No time for serious photography and weight is my concern. Care to share your comments? Thank you.

size...:)..and price. ;p
If I wanted a DSLR like camera at a near DSLR size, I would have gotten a DSLR. The idea of the mirrorless camera is to cut down on bulk and size. Both Pany and Oly failed to take advantage of this key characteristic. I replaced by F200EXR (mostly anyway) with the Nex5 but the NEX3 would have done as well. It serves as a fuss-free PnS with DSLR-image quality.

I always get spare batteries when purchase any DSLR or PNS. Some how I feel safer when there is a spare battery with me.(That's is me, a bit kia su:))

Spare battery not really needed for normal use in Singapore (family outings but not events).
But if you travel overseas, do note the battery will ALMOST last 1 day of heavy usage. In my overseas trip recently, I ran out of juice in the evenings and managed to squeeze out to night by rationing..and of course, charge it full every night.:)

yea

was overseas recently and used till evenings then took out spare batt to use at night

Good investment

I am asking my friend buy 1 spare for me from HK this weekend. It is sold about $90 from Sonystyle there.

for me im using a NEX 3 and battery depetes quite fast as well, i guess it depends on the format that u shoot with and generally how much processing is done.

got myself a 3rd party battery from Orion express at sls last weekend for $40 bucks as a standby

do not save on spare batteries, it is a nightmare especially when u are on an overseas tour

im on the new firmware 0.2 and battery still drains like a leaky bucket

can do around 200-250 shots before it goes empty.

The new firmware does not extend your battery life, it merely adjusts the algorithm to measure and rate the battery. Previously the battery was reported as zero after one night and this firmware solves that problem. But 200 shots is quite bad really. I can get over 300-400 shots on a full charge. :)

How many charge cycles have you done? Normally it takes around 3-4 full charge to fully run in the battery.

bros,
It about the same, if you don't mine, look for compatible battery from overseas. Less then S$30 dollars,

just got my NEX ,how long do u guy charge your battery ?
i charge for 2 hour, is only 60% full...

First charge about 4 hrs. Subsequently about 2-3 hours from fully discharged state. :)

charging a half-charged battery shouldnt matter as its one of those smart-lithium ones... shouldnt have much memory effect...

if you think the battery life is bad... shooting with the attached flash multiple times to test fire slave strobes on the side and you end up with maybe 1/2 day usage only....with 30-or 40 usable shots

still, i'm pretty resistant to buying a spare battery, hate carrying spare anything but for the NEX, i think its pretty necessary

For Lithium batteries, keeping the charge as full as possible prolongs the battery life. :)

Bought the original batt from HK at the Mongkok Computer Centre for HK420 (S$73).

Hey, i need some valuable feedback from you guys.

If i buy the 3rd party battery for my nex 3, will the warranty be voided?

General answer is no but if that battery kaput nd make your nex kaput, then warranty might not cover such damages
