NEX-5 and NEX-3 interchangeable lens

Actually I think that mount is meant for both flash attachment and/or EVF? I doubt that Sony would produce a mirrorless camera without including an EVF of some kind as all the competitors are doing so?

I'm not quite sure,I do remember seeing mic and flash attachment, and no news on the EVF,anyway, whether or not my camera has an EVF,doesn't bother me,more important is image quality, sensor might be bigger, but if the quality is still not what I like,I won't consider it at all,but of course, that's just me ;)

mFT from Panasonic and Olympus is more expensive is due to no competition. With Sony's version out with competitive price, pricing will head down gradually.

Price cut happening in the next 6 months once Sony and Samsung hit the market?

Second that; IQ and handling are most important for me. That's also why I got the EPL-1. The EP1's menu is too complex and the Sony NEX looks like worse! The current NEX samples look very flat and of low contrast.

Hey Dominum, sorry for my hasty post...it's just difficult to believe that Sony has anything that is cheap...

Even Sony's full frame DSLR cameras are cheap. Their entry-level DSLR cameras are dirt cheap (A230+kit lens for 620...).

Don't be so quick to assume. You know what they sat about "assume"...

I've handled the NEX5. It's actually very comfortable. As photogs, we will normally use our left hand tosupport the camera at the lens, right? Bingo. The right grip is good too, and I have big hands.

What's really astonishing is the quality of the lenses. All-metal body, really super smooth and well-damped zoom. No cheap plastics here.

WOW! Hey bro! How have you been? :bsmilie: Long time no see, since that studio shoot,if it feels comfortable, I trust your judgement, but I've already invested in micro four thirds and four thirds,so no point in me investing in this ;p

I can see a major flaw..............no external hotshoe for wireless flash triggers. The flap on top is obviously a mount for an external flash, but for shooting in a studio or strobing outdoors most people need a standard hotshoe mount and the Sony NEX cameras don't seem to have that. That being said I don't see any strobists or studio photographers being tempted to ditch their current cameras for the NEX series.

eh.... It's not a flaw la.

That's because NEX-3/5 is not targeting studio photographers or strobist.
NEX is targetting at users who is migrating from PNS to another 'PNS" with more lens choices, and better image quality.

For studio shoot, I don't think ppl will be using a small compact camera?
For strobists, I don't think why ppl will want a compact camera when their lighting equiptments are already bulky..

Maybe future NEX may be able to trigger external flashes wirelessly?

But hey, NEX lenses are huge! What is the point of a small body?:dunno:

More pancakes to come I hope.

But kit lens seems too big. BIG HEAD...small body...

I agree on that grip, love it.

The competition is heating up ... the more the merrier.

The benchmark in IQ + ISO balance for me among these small body cameras is still the E-PL1, at least until ISO 1600. Interesting to see how the NEX-5 compares against E-PL1, not E-P1 or E-P2.

I have consciously not invested in (not kept) m4/3 lenses. I only had to when I had E-P1 which is easier to AF than MF, and only have the 9-18mm UWA now, so always open to good "affordable" stuff without feeling much pain. But no GAS for me with these NEX, no EVF. No more PNS-style of shooting for me.

I'm sure enterprising manufacturers will come out with adapters for manual focus legacy lenses, as NEX is supposedly having a longer flange measurement and can use even more lens mounts than m4/3.

This is only Sony's 1st round and it's competent enough, I think. Awaiting the next rounds, including the rest of the brands ... Olympus, Panasonic, Fuji (?) :).

Heh, well I'm taking up strobist photography and I'm using m4/3. ;)

After reading the reviews, the auto-HDR and Twilight Mode look like very useful tools for everyday shooting. Plus since the processing is done in-camera, there'll be less work and time spent in post-process. I'm starting to wonder if I should sell my current system and get a NEX5 with the 18-55 lens? :D

My main concern is how to trigger my external flashes wirelessly. I'm wondering if I could use an optical trigger somehow using the tiny NEX flash. If that problem can be solved, then I think the NEX system will be the system to get.

The next few months will be the litmus test. People will be trying out the NEX cameras and the strengths and flaws will be revealed. Also to watch out for are the responses from Panasonic and Olympus, mainly how will they respond in terms of pricing and also in terms of products. Frankly the current 2010 releases for m4/3 do not excite me at all and I'm hoping that after this something better will be announced as the current cameras and releases seem to be minor upgrades of the existing systems instead of ground-breaking and revolutionary designs.

Hey bro! All good, just lurking here and there. :)

If you already have a m4/3 investment, of course there's far less appeal. But this could be ok (especially the red NEX-3) for the people who are upgrading from a PnS.

No, it's just because the body is that tiny. You also need to consider the fact that it's an APS-C sensor... Lenses simply need to be a certain size to project a sufficient imaging circle.

If you actually hold it, it's smaller than it looks. :)

You could use salve triggers, just that any flash from any other camera can trigger it, I haven't had the chance, but if my friends are doing it, I'm gonna leave my lens cap on,and use the strobe AF assist on my E-3 to go disturb them

Haha, cool,my m4/3 investment currently only consist of my body and lens and 1 adapter XD, but yea, like the m4/3, this is more appealing to those upgrading from PnS or those who are looking to buy a cam for the first time. there is a red one? That kinda sucks... Olympus's red E-PL1 not available here,oh well XD

Actually, the ENTIRE TOPIC is off topic here!!! :ipuke:

The only thing on topic is the Micro FourThirds related replies!

The topic is about what potential threat the NEX3 and NEX5 pose to the "looking for tiny DSLR" m4/3 market. As such, it's quite on-topic.

I think its just made the M4/3 arena more excited and users with M4/3 to expect more from Oly and Panny.

From that perspective , its good as for them to stay relevant and recover their huge M4/3 investments , they need to respond to other manufacturers mirrorless/big sensors implementations .

End of the day consumer wins :)

by the way Rashkae , did you have any chance to handle the Nex 3 ? Wonder how the ergonomics feels compared to Nex 5.

Actually that can be made in the Sony forum, I am sure when N or C comes along it wouldn't be nice to post inside Sony's forum.
