Love the grains on the B&W shot of the cat

any bros out there switched to the A7S from A7R?..
would like to know if the AF hunts in low light as compared to the A7R..

You can try the A7s at 313 Sony . They've displays which allows u to test very low light shooting. It does hunt a bit.

A key question u gotta ask yourself is: yes, advertised 4xxxxx ISO values , but what are the ISO values that still give u usable results ?

Definitely better than A7 or A7R. Most importantly, it locks in focus accurately. Still not for sports.

this video shows the AF of the A7S in a well lit environment..

but from the 1:10 mark.. the author turned off the lights and shot with the A7S.. it is amazing how the A7S can "see" in the dark.. the AF slowed down quite a bit when it is dark even with the AF illuminator.. it's a pity he did not turn off the AF illuminator and shot again in the dark..

I've had both the A7R and A7S, and also the A7. didn't have the chance to test both A7R and A7S side by side, but the reliability of the AF for A7S in low light is definitely better than the A7R. A7S will attempt to AF and get the AF in much darker conditions compared to the A7R.

in those kinds of conditions A7S can AF, the A7R/A7 can't even get close to trying to get focus.

I disable and switch off the AF illumination assist lamp all the time.

actually AF is the most important thing to me. Does the A7S focus fast enough for a walking subject using the 55m @ f1.8?

Got my a7s for $2565 and 55mm for $956 today.

is there no minimum shutter speed with auto ISO setting??

I thought sony did this for one of the NEX camera??

First impressions.... CAF still cannot make it but the dim light focusing is very good. The camera actually gathers more light than I can see allowing to frame in very dark conditions...

Only use I can ever think of is photographing northern light handheld :)

I tested the lowlight AF vs my D800 35mmf1.4 and the a7s can lock on indoor at night with no lights on. The d800 cannot.

Is there a way to record xavc movie onto a SDHC extreme pro card or must I buy a SDXC card?

No, only sdxc

can share where do you purchase it ?

I got mine at a slighter higher price.. Good time to get it with rebate.

The fe35mm f2.8 is less than 800 brand new.

I got mine at click. But I think the regular shops like SLRR, mscolor etc is around that price as Sony is having a cashback rebate promotion.

After playing with the a7s and 55mm for one more day, although the AFC is not very good, AFS speed is very fast in good light. And the hit rate is very high. The eye AF is REALLY good and super accurate. Nails the focus on the eyes easily even with a very thin DOF of 55mm f1.8. I can accept a lousy AFC tradeoff in return for a super accurate AFS which is better than my D800 phase detect AF.

Also the 55mm lens is really good. Sharp at f1.8 (my sensor is 12meg so it must be sharp :) ) and the loCA is very minimal even at f1.8.
