[News} Sony’s a7S Full-Frame Camera Realises a New World of Imaging Expression

I definitely see improvement in low light focussing i.e. all lights switched off, especially with the FE55, between the A7 and A7s. Tried this for two nights in a row in different locations and noticed the same observations.

Low light focusing is marginally better than a7R. AF speed still the same (slow).

Time to test my vog 15mm

16-20MP is a nice figure but definitely not 12MP for a FF. It might be ok 2-3 years ago.

Pixel size vs pixel count
Low Light vs high resolution

You must have heard it many times. I guess the current technology will not support both in one device.
As someone mentioned earlier - just get both A7R and A7S to cover both needs. The price of used A7R is getting better ;)

Cheers!

Great camera for night safari. Esp with cz f1.4 50mm or f1.8 135mm!

This guy is singing about the A7s like it was godsend....... Well he did get the camera free from Sony, didn't he? ..... :)

Good point, I think he did mention his set is loaned or free from Sony.
Just like all other info available in internet - read, check and verify with other sources. Never go blind-sided with one source. CS and other forums provide info from other sources to share. :)

hehe so much talk and no photos from our CS brothers who bought the A7s.

post some poison leh? Hacker?

I've been reading Steve Huff for a number of years and find that he's a bit temperamental with his reviews. Sometimes on a great camera, as reviewed by other sources, he will find teeny weeny weaknesses that brings the score down. On a so-so camera, sometimes his reviews goes off the charts. So yea, take it with a pinch of salt.

To be fair, most of his reviews are overly enthusiastic. You just need to understand his reviewing style. I personally don't like it and stopped reading his reviews regularly but he does give a decent real world usage reviews, just don't buy into his enthusiasm.

I go to his website more to look at the "real world" images rather than the test chart/scene reviews from other sites.

....this time they are mostly in B&W ............ ;)

Look at this amazing low light performance of A7S.

And DR is very good too.

wah..the DR is very tempting~ im really torned between a7 or a7s..as i will be mainly use them as my backup/2nd body in wedding/AD shoot..im worrying that the focus speed is not fast enough...i tried a7 with FE2470..the focus is quite slow =( not sure would it be much better if i pair it with 35 or 55:dunno:

The ammount of pixels packed on a Chip is not a criteria to say "the more Mega pixels the more image quality and lower noise" in fact lesser bigger pixels distributed on a full frame chip can be an interesting approach to obtain images with lesser noise because of a bigger area of each pixels kinds of has an averaging effect that smoothens what would look noisy in chips with much more MP in the same chip area
