[ News ] GX7 is available for sale in Singapore

Probably believed the sales guy and thought that he got the best deal ever ......:bsmilie:

Haha, there's never a best deal ever ; prices will drop if one is patient enough.

Not in a hurry wait a bit la, sure this kit set will hit $1.3k tops after a month or two , especially after EM-1 hits the stores.

The Singapore price seems to be the one of the lowest in the world. B&H & Adorama are selling the body for USD999 (S$1,259) and the 20mm II for $429 (S$540) so the combo in the US would be S$1,799 so the bundle in SG is about 20% cheaper. In Oz, the cheapest online price I could find was S$1,600 for the 20mm kit. The only place where the price seems similar is Japan where cameras are now very cheap given Yen depreciation. At Yodobashi, the GX7 20mm kit is going for Y109,800 or about S$1,400.

Many thanks for the info and congrats on your new toy. We both shoot manual legacy lenses on our NEX 5N, so I need your advice on how the focus peaking on GX7 will compare to the 5N. I need longer reach for my existing 200 & 300 mm lenses and am toying with the GX7. Hope you can provide some input either here or through PM. Many thanks.

thanks for sharing the comparison. Smart shopper eh. No matter what, I'm really glad to know Pricing wise, Pana has done real good by giving the local community a good price.

To add to the comparison:

Amazon JP: Body ¥ 85,129 (S$1082) / Kit ¥ 97,974 (S$1245)

Do note that last time I tried to source a Panasonic camera from Japan, menus were only in Japanese

I've only tried it briefly, but peaking seems to work very well on regular M43 lenses. There is a AF/MF switch on the camera, so its a quick flick to MF and then turning the focus ring will bring up a small magnified view of the center. After that, it works just like peaking in the NEX in that the magnified area has little coloured dots at the highest contrast and gives you a much more precise focus. I also note that the GX7 seems to autofocus quickly and accurately in near darkness.

I don't have any adapters yet, but note that Panasonic make an adapter for Leica M-mount lenses, so you can probably be assured that it is pretty high quality compared to the Kipons or the like. I plan to get the M-mount adapter and a Contax-G adapter as I think my G-90 will give me a nice 180mm EFL @ F2.8 with Zeiss sharpness.

As for whether one can easily hand hold and manual peaking focus at 600mm EFL, I'll have to update you this weekend when I get to use the camera properly. I have a Panasonic 100-300mm lens so I can try to get some shots for you in that mode. The GX7 has 2-axis IBIS so it should help with your legacy lenses. If you shoot movies at long range, there is a very cool feature that the GX7 has which is a 2.7x digital teleconverter, but mainly for video. What it does is use just the center 1920x1080 pixels of the GX7's 16MP sensor so you get a 2.7x teleconverter for video. Hence a 300mm M43 lens becomes a 1620mm zoom lens. I'll try to shoot some movies of the moon if its out this weekend.

Yesterday, I picked up silver 20mm kit, 16GB sd card, extra original battery, case for $1500

I'm very happy :) with the deal I got, it may not be the best deal but good enough. I was pleasantly surprised with the case, a 2-piece wrap/case that I was going to buy separately anyways, since I like to just throw my camera into my backpack (especially since 20mm will be on cam 90% of time).

Many thanks Sam. Will wait for your further test.

Overall I'd say its a pretty good deal with the extra batt :)

Spent the afternoon at a few shops chit chatting today and general pricing around 1470 with card , bag and 20mm. :)

Tried the GX7 for half an hour ; hmm , still not very used to the EVF but overall build is really solid. Ended up I will prefer the EM1 , 12-40 combo feel instead haha

All this is poison !! poison !! dont tempt me......

That sentence means u r already poisoned le la haha but ya, try to get a xtra batt as part of the deal. Makes the package more worth it.

Can always have 2 bodies... One for the long and one for the short.

I already have gh3 & epl5... If I get gx7, I'll. need to let go of something..

haha , now i gotta agree. You don't need the GX7 given the GH3 and EPL5.

For me, i'm only keeping 1 MFT body, the EP5.

I think you should go have a hands on GX7 to feel for yourself, the grip is pretty nice if you are mounting "Bigger" lens and the silence mode is really a plus point for street photography. But I think I am swaying towards EM1 in terms of specs and the 12-40 kit.
