Yah, saw LOTS of 2nd hand Mamiya today.
At silly high prices wanted by the consignment owners.

that's sad.. but it doesn't say that it will stop producing cameras, so that's a good thing...

they will stop.

This effectively marks the death of medium format i.e.

Contax has closed down.
Bronica was closed down by Tamron sometime back.
Hasselblad is barely surviving, a shade of its former self, now owned by Shiriro.
Rolleiflex is small, barely surviving.
Pentacon is long gone.

Well, except Kiev/Hartblei ... but I don't think they're doing that well either.

And maybe Seagull, which has also gone very quiet.

I think the future availability of 120 film is going to be an issue.

Wooohoo!! Leaky Kiev all the way!!

Oh well... sigh..

There will be boutique specialists film manufacturers like Efke that will continue producing 120 film even if the majors decide to quit.

Kodak just built a new film manufacturing facility in China. And Ilford is not shutting down their film manufacturing facility as feared. Fujifilm is still in the game. The future is not all that bleak.

relax la..
its another company brought over mamiya...doesn't mean they are going to stop everything...

There are mamiya users and owners who are CS members and if we say the wrong thing, it may irritate them.
Some are trying to sell off the stuff, so guess comments will make it more difficult.

If mamiya itself after so many years of first hand experience thinks, it is no point going on with the business, then what does the new buyer have in mind?

Is it buying to continue the business like before?
Change focus on product line?
Asset strip the company, sell it off in parts, like the factory and land on which it stands. Kill the business entirely after buying it? We do not know.

Anybody's guess. Just wait and see.

Well at least you are not the one sitting on a mountain of unsold mamiya stocks in the factory or warehouse. So you can sleep well.

mamiya itself seems pretty ok as a camera line. Especially the medium format rangefinders.
