how come no one talks about the Minolta flash system, regarded by many to be the best flash system ever?

Not enough critical mass. Minolta's marketing department unfortunately isn't working a lot. ;p

I tried and swear by the Nikon flash system, seen Canon's flash pictures which are just as good, but haven't seen any Minolta ones, so I won't comment on whether it's good/bad.

unfortunately yes... *sigh* someone needs to set fire to their pants...
