Awwwwwww... Am damn sure you can shoot like this. It's only all about the angles, and the exposures.

Shwedagon Paya is ONE single shot. No stitching.

I'll leave you with another one, before I go Diving....

Haha bro, keep on trying and you will get to the standard.

One day we meet up for coffee, ask Thomas to treat..

Dear wish4me, CONGRATULATIONS !!! I told you it could be done !!! Also, if it get a bit darker, then you want to switch to manual focusing as well.
The zoomed image makes it easier to focus....

Anyway, the trick is to set the meter from 1.5stops, to 2-stops over exposed, depending on how much grass/leaves you have in the image. Just bracket, and you'll be fine. Important to note that you need to compose your shots just as if you were shooting a "normal image". This is important !!

While you were too busy celebrating that you could shoot IR, your composition urgently needs work. You can cheat by cropping off the bottom (emptiness) for now. But you gotta work on your composition. Read John Hedgecoe, or Nat Geo's or Lonely Planet for a very basic intro to composition. Am sure most CS'ers here will be able to list you hundreds and hundreds of books. We.. make Bras Basah your BEST friend, if you want to get those books for cheap.

I'll leave you with my latest IR shot taken in Bali just a few days ago...

Hope this drives you to shoot even more now...

Oh ya, and keep updating this thread with new images
Cheers

ah ya i need to scold u because of your ir photo i walk the whole afternoon hunting down the r72 filters he he he

to set meter stop, that means it is not manual mode to shoot ? i think my workflow is a bit funny
1) i use manual mode to focus the picture and press and hold half shutter than fix in the filter the fully press to take photo as i cannot focus with filter on,but i think i need set at least 10 sec or i have a black screen, also i set to black n white
2) i wonder why if ir all is in black n white ? as i think only red will pass thru the filter
3) tomorrow i no work, hope no rain, i go try again

some night shot

no 1

when i took this shot, i remember MICHEAL CHICK n the rest who said about angle and composition,so in my still a long way to go newbie mind, i tin this should be the best angle, framing, and light he he he but i wonder if the blue bridge is an eyescore, personal best shot of the night

27hour001.jpg

no 2

it was shot at long exposure of 15 sec at f8 at 80 iso, i did some framing on the camera so that i do not get too much of the dark sky,n achieve 40%land 60%water,i dun know why i like to see water reflection

27hour002.jpg

i miss durian when tis shot was taken, i zoom in n frame the whole building in without much skyline with a bit of water reflection,m....... will mc say there is no composition, better dig a hole n hide myself

MC: Scold lor... scold lor.... hahahahaha

to set meter stop, that means it is not manual mode to shoot ?
MC: Nope. You can set it to "auto" WITH the filter on, and see the settings. Then, switch to Manual to set it yourself BUT add 2 stops to "over it".

1) i use manual mode to focus the picture and press and hold half shutter than fix in the filter the fully press to take photo as i cannot focus with filter on,but i think i need set at least 10 sec or i have a black screen, also i set to black n white
MC: Try my method above.... It's easier. I noticed most of my IR exposures are around f5.6 @60 secs... but then again, my light conditions are not the same as yours.

2) i wonder why if ir all is in black n white ? as i think only red will pass thru the filter
MC: You can shoot it in COLOR, and then just use the Green Channel in Photoshop. It seems to give the best results.

3) tomorrow i no work, hope no rain, i go try again
MC: Slaughter 2 chickens and throw them into the Volcano, like what some "uncle" did at Mt Merapi... hahahaha

Now onto your Night Shots:

MC: Nice shot. No, the blue is a little overpowering, but given the circumstance, it's pretty decent. An Angled Grey Grad ND4 filter would have toned it down a tad. But nothing Photoshop can't fix...

No 2
IS GOOD !!! NO Complaints !! Yes. You are getting the idea now !!!

i miss durian when tis shot was taken,
MC: I just had the BEST Durian Medan (Sumatera) had to offer just 2 weeks ago !!! hahahaha

i zoom in n frame the whole building in without much skyline with a bit of water reflection,m....... will mc say there is no composition, better dig a hole n hide myself
MC: NOPE... I say this is Good as well !! If I were fussy, I'd only say that it is a little too "tight". Loosen it up by say 5% (unzoom a bit), and then it's PERFECT. But Am glad you're getting the idea now. If irritating buildings/ bits of rubbish show up coz of the unzoom, then just Photoshop it off. Not much you can do to remove the bits of unwanted stuff in building shots otherwise.

Anyway, much much much better than when you first started. Congrats again !! :)

And here's the practical reason for asking you to ease up on this pix. In the old days of framing, you need some room for the framers to physically glue the picture to the mat, before they frame it up. So, in the days of digital, most people see it as an "overscan", when they should see it as an "underscan". Google these 2 words to see what it means. Yes, it is a Broadcast Term.

Cheers Bro. And yes, Keep shooting and shooting, and shooting...

hi, michael will take note on your lessons on ir, this morning was a joke man and the joker was me, my first ir was taken at close to 7pm so i guess light was limited thus camera was unable to focus, today i tried at 11 am,ha ha i am able to take shot with different exposure,so i am going to try ir with hdr

wow this morning i was also wondering if my mum get to see me again for the last time,i was damn worried as i was thinking where to dig a hole for myself, till i reach home log in cs n saw your reply,it was a relief

will be posting soon for u to comment, maybe u can photoshop for me ;p

Aiyoh !!! No need to panic... I'm just here to give you my 2 cents, or izzit 2 Rupiah? hahaha...

Just keep going. And I can't wait to see your next set of pixes.
Side note: HDR and IR Combo may not produce the best results, but then again, I could be wrong....

Cheers
