Yup, that's correct - but perhaps I misunderstood u - thought u offered him that suggestion to reduce reflective light (glare?).

You were refering to red devil's ND filter. i have a circular polariser and it does cut out the glare a lot. is that whjat you mean? is that similar to the ND filter?
soo many types of filters:confused:

A polariser does reduce the amount of life entering the lens - but not as much as ND filters. If u need a slower shutter speed e.g. to capture flowing water as opposed to "freezed" water, u'll need to use an ND filter.

The main function of a polariser is to eliminate reflections from water, glass or other shiny surfaces.

Thank you so much everyone. really appreciate you people taking time out to guide a blur sotong like me.
name's kenneth by the way.studying microbiology in nus. just got my second-hand F80 a few months ago and still learning the ropes.

not forgetting it can help 2 saturate colors, especially making the skies more blue! ;)

thanx. points noted. the shadows definitely have to go. but i actually kinda like the stick, a bit of a counterpoint to the wide open space.
i also think the sticks have significance. perhaps they are too small in the whole big picture? there may be too many points of interest, such that there is NO resultant main point of interest in the end... the main point of interest must be clear. if you have to guess what the main point of focus is, then it isn't the main one... make sense? :D
i guess i like the emptiness cos you dun see much of it in singapore. it's just very closed up here. i kinda feel free and uncluttered when i look at the pic.
then you need to show the emptiness somehow. i guess there is a bit much clutter (dark sand, trees, sticks, buildings, clouds) and the openness isn't very obvious.

i think i should emphasise that you did see something in that landscape, you just need to work on how to tell everyone (who hasn't been there like you) how you felt. keep thinking through the process of conveying your thoughts/feelings.

hokay, will try to plan my shots more. you guys really gave me a lot of very good pointers. wouldn't have even thought of all these if you didn't mention. thanks.:D

noting all the previous comments. i think that this picture would look great in BnW.. high speed film.,.

it's got a very rustic look.. bringing out some grain in a BnW print would really make this look spectacular..

btw, which corner of ubin is this at?
