Newbie learning to take food photos

In my opinion, this photo framing can be improve probably by either including the full flower or totally not including the flower deco at all cause kinda distracting when it is cut off.

Thanks for the comment, will take note!! The flower was "cut" off because of the limitation of the table space :( I always try to keep a clean shots of my food photos without including others dishes or stuff inside so if I took with full flower, I will have the side of the plate from other dish in the photo.

I like the colors from the "ingredients" in the middle of your photo! It is confirm making me crave for some! ;p
However, I think the shadow on the top left of the photo is slightly distracting :/ It will be good to clone/patch it away using photoshop/lightroom. :)

I like the colours and freshness too! However, I don't think in the context of the thread here, the shadows really bother me much and warrants time to clone it out. Afterall, it is the intent of the photograher to show the different dishes that he enjoyed and reviewed for our "enjoyment". Of course, if it is a magazine/product shot, then it really matters to have clean shot. :)

Thanks for the comments. Will take note of the shadows in future shots. Currently I don't have any photoshop in hand so unable to clone out the shadow :( Too expensive to get the original so have to see if I got the time to check out m'sia "market" to get 1 :bsmilie:

Tori ShogYki Don (Pan Fried Teriyaki Chicken with Egg)
Shin Kushiya (Vivo City)

The combination of half boil egg taste kind of weird but the teriyaki chicken was really nicely done.

Woah. :D the prawn noodle looks good! :) I prefer the 45 degree view(1st photo) than the top view(2nd photo) :D

Perhaps next one you can try including other dishes but making them "blur out" aka bokeh-ed. :D It will also be good~ Would love to see more from you! :)

Thanks Serene!!

I do not want to include half eaten dishes as a background as I can't stop others to start eating while I took the photos :bsmilie: so I still perfer to do a clean shot of a dish :)

There is something wrong with all of them, the compositions are all off.

Thanks for the comment, could you share more on which area of the composition were off or how to make it "on" in order for me to improve :)

Why do you say so ? I find his photos very well taken with good composition, very nice use of DOF, excellent lighting & very accurate colours.

While appreciation of photography is largely subjective opinion, I would think 45 pages of very well received food photos imply these photos are pretty darn well taken.

But if you could share what to improve, it would be great, after all clubsnap is really the best place to learn photography :D

Let's share constructive comments for improvements :D

Peace.
