I am not dismissing the 18-200 as it is definitely a good lens for normal use and traveling. I find the 18-200...

1. very useful for its focal range of wide to telephoto
2. the VRII helps with low light and shaky hands
3. fairly good CA and flare control for a superzoom
4. excellent sharpness when stopped down and in the sweet spot focal range

but...

1. it is not "fast" enough at times to "stop" subject motion
2. does not produce the nice bokeh that I wish to achieve
3. lens creep...
4. all sorts of distortion with exception at 24mm

Yes, you can increase the ISO to retain the speed but that is only thing you can do. Increasing the ISO does not make the aperture any bigger and the DOF will be different. The largest aperture at 70mm for 18-200 is around f/5 compared to f/2.8 on 24-70. The focal range is something that has to be sacrificed to keep the size down for fast lens.

For my copy, downward creeping starts at 35mm ~ 50mm. Take picture at 50mm, review picture, then realise it is now at 135mm...
