Sifted through my pile of photos shot on Day1 and found these two worth - the rest can be relegated to the trash can. So much for the effort of the riders :(

That's all for tonight, folks. Have few more photos from Day2 that I need to sift through. I'll post some other time...

Problems faced while shooting wakeboarding (from a newbie's perspective)
1. 400mm focal length not enough to get close to the action.
2. Shouldn't use multi-point focus as the camera picks up the junk in the background and focusses on it.
3. Should use single point focus. However, if the action is quite fast, the camera picks up the splashing water as the focussing point.
4. As usual, have to position yourself with no backlighting or else you will get underexposed subjects.
5. If you are new to the sport, watch a few riders to get a feel of the sport and at what position the riders would do the tricks.

I salute those gurus who used to shoot on film with manual focussing....

I hope the experts could provide tips for newbies like me to improve...

Winnie,
Bad luck. I don't have any of your photos :(
Good that dethAngel had one photo of yours.
Wish you good luck in your future endeavours....

You're not the only one. Those are the only few shots I had after shooting a whole bunch that day.

I had alot of problems to with the AF as well, as the AF system tended to be fooled by the water spray and the background.

400mm IS ACTUALLY enough (yours is a 1.6x). I did shoot on the first day with a 100-400. But didn't get much action. Think I bumped into you on the first day as I was headed towards the break water - you were about to leave.

Sadly the ideal place to shoot the action was across the shore - yes that area under construction now.

hey asterixsg, borrow your thread yah... =D

for variety's sake

ha ha. so, it was you I bumped into, on Saturday :D

i did see someone on the opposite side on Sunday afternoon - must've waded through the water or jumped over the construction barrier.

kongping,
thanks for posting your shots. excellent
i am assuming these are cropped images of the original.

Yup, shots are in portrait format and cropped to taste [ or the lack thereof... =P ]
