so if the price only 550$, i wonder why people pay around 700$ for 50mm f/2 macro. both is 1:1 magnification ? :)

Well, one's an f/2 the other is an f/4.0-5.6...

It appears to be exactly the same lens as the Sigma 70-300mm APO which is a fairly decent lens for its price. See that there is an AF/MF switch on the lens unlike all other Zuikos.

Blu mentioned that a few weeks back and he's still got quite a bit of first-degree burns :flame: (Thou shalt not mention "Zuiko" and "Sigma" in the same sentence in this forum)

That aside, here's an image of optical design and arrangement of the S*gma 70-300 APO and the Olympus 70-300 ED I came across at www.fourthirdsphoto.com

Oly is probably using the Sigma design, but should be fitting it with better glass, probably.

You mean because the Olympus part of that drawing is sharp while the Sigma half is fuzzy?

think so, because sigma lens resolution is half of oly's design

You remembered that!!!:bsmilie: So I am not wrong after all. Anyway, my source did say that the coatings are different. Hence the better resolutions and the higher price. As for the rest of the innards, not sure. :dunno: It could spot a newer/faster AF motor.

How could I forget :)

Since these ZDs cost a premium they better be GOOD.

We will only know when the lens is out. Someone is bound to do a side by side shootout on it.

Maybe it is made by Sigma, quality controlled by Olympus and branded Olympus if OK, Sigma if not passed QC. :dunno:

Yes kid, Sigma is not releasing any 70-300 for the 4/3 mount. but Sigma have it for all the other mounts.

That is cheap, hope it quickly arrives here, lol

wow... yah manz.. can;t wait... if its optics is as good as the 40-150... would definitely be worth the bucks!!!.....
reviews reviews reviews... come'on where are the review?!?!? hee

It is cheap in Japan.

Do not forget Singapore is the country where Olympus sell the Zuiko lens most expensive around the region.

Even we buy from US and ship it back, it could be cheaper than we buy locally here.

Hmm quite having doubt in this lens though. Prefer the 50-200mm. Wait for it to come here then see live review from existing buyers then can deicde to buy or not.

Am sure the 50-200 will NOT even be half as expensive as the 70-200 .....

its expensive if you don't need the lens, if you don't need a high end tele for your shooting needs, settle for the budget ones (if you need the range in the 1st place that is).
