New Trick or Old Trick

Been looking at the Buy & Sell.
Noticed something surfaced recently.
Is this a new trick or an old trick?

X advertises in Buy and Sell for an item A (say, for example fictitious Outakon Camera model F88N) and posts desired sell price at $G.

Few days later a friend of X (or X himself under another fake identity) advertises in Buy and Sell for same item A (fictitious Outakon Camera model F88N) and posts much higher desired sell price at $G+$$$$$$.

So high is the price that sometimes it may be close to buying BRAND NEW at the shop. In the case of digital cameras, where product prices drop dramatically every year, you might even be able to buy CHEAPER and BRAND NEW for the same product item A at the photographic shop.

The effect of this trick is to psyche potential buyers into thinking they have a good deal in the first advertised offer to sell at $G; when they make a comparison of the two advertised offers to sell.

So you know who is actually pulling this trick? Have u PMed the mods with the relevant links to investigate?

caveat emptor...buyer should always do his/her homework before buying. what the heck, when i buy something on B&S, I dun really compare prices much, maybe just one or two... as long as i think the price is reasonable as compared to a brand new one...i will go for it...

no point tryin to save $20 or $30 and risk missing a good photo opportunity!

Got any example sale threads?

Which is why I strongly advise all potential buyers to know the market value and going price of the item they're eyeing so as to not get fooled by price padding scams/tactics which are fairly common and hard to sniff out.

Its one of the main points I listed in my guide. FYI there are a whole host of other tactics which are used, which is why I came up with a series of guidelines/advice to help newbie buyers avoid getting scammed. The tactics are aplenty, but most can be countered/avoided by adhering to a few principles and performing a few "checks"

In this case, if you're familiar with the market value/2nd hand value of the item, you won't be fooled by price inflation attempts.
