New to the world of M Digital

looks like there's no hope.

what's driving me nuts now is that

i have an M9P
when my 35 cron arrives next week, i *should* send body and lens in for calibration.
then it comes back.
months later, i get a 50 lux. need to send the 35 cron, 50 lux and the M9P to Solm again for calibration

I wonder if I will ever get a chance to shoot with this camera or if it will spend most of its life in Solm or in transit...

Don't get so ganchiong. Go shoot a bit to see if you really need to align the RF at all.

I agree with NazgulKing. I didn't calibrate my 35 and 50 lux, and they work just fine! The only lens that is highly recommended for calibration is the 50 Noct.

at first, i worried a lot...
about calibration, firmware upgrade, battery or sd-card issues... jpg or raw
then i stopped worrying and started shooting.

I don't know what you are talking about. you haven't receive your lens and you are thinking of calibration.

I agree with master raytoei: stop worry and start shooting.

The 50 Noct? As in the Noctilux or the CV 50/1.1? I really doubt I would shoot the 50/1.1 wide open - having seen the samples from http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/rangefinders/666762-50mm-rf-lenses-shot-wide-open-using-m9.html, I can't say I'm impressed with the wide open performance due to the insanely thin DOF. I would probably shoot more often at f1.4 at slower shutter speeds than at f1.1 and miss focus. And Chiif mentioned that the 1.1 is big and heavy, a la Noctilux, which i'm not ready for. i might save up for a 50 lux ASPH, but right now, I can't decide if I want a 35 lux ASPH more than a 50 lux ASPH (in a perfect world, I'd have both)

i typically shoot my X100 wide open at high ISOs (3200/4000) in the evening, so a 2/3 stop advantage (f2 --> f1.2 or f1.4) might compensate for the lack of high ISO performance (in color - the noise just looks like grain in B&W)..or maybe it's just wishful thinking, since focusing at f1.2 in low lighting conditions is somewhat of a dark art :)

The Noctilux. Yes the DOF is insanely thin and it's not easy to control but once you're used to it, it can produces some exceptional results.

Well they are right, just shoot with you combo set and see whether any focusing issue & check the infinity issue. Best is that before you get the new len, bring your cam to test with the len.

For mine (M9 & Lux 50), now is in Solm for calibration. If your set under warranty, just send back Lecia Singapore and they will check and advice accordingly.

Sometime they mixed up between front or back focusing issue. Anyway, once your set arrived Solm, you will received a email of what they are checking on each item.

You must know your problem and you still can shoot that by compensating. As i am always shooting at wide open at 1.4 so i send back for calibration. Before i send back i just compensate and as that will be like guessing stuff. However, you will still able to get very sharp photo at wide open. Furthermore, at infinity the line just don't match.

Try to get all you lens at one time and send that together with your cam for calibration. But do remember that this is a rangefinder and tend to have calibration issue (whether big or small) in time to come. By how much it depends on how you use your system. There is some doc that teaches one how to calibrate the cam and most did calibrate satisfactory. However, you might not know whether your len is at fault or not. There is a lot of thread online debating that the calibration only for film based M. But a lot did tried on their digital M with great success. However, if your set still warranty, just send in.
