New to night photography

Hi all, I'm still rather new to photography, just wanna share some night shots that I tried taking last night. Please guide me along. C & Cs are welcome.

#3 was taken at F8.0, 20 secs
#4 was at F10.0, 20 secs
#5 was at F10.0, 30 secs

I think #3 could have been better though...

At what focal length? U used yr 17-85mm?

I was using my 17-55mm. Focal length....all taken at 17mm.

3 and 4 rocks;D i like 3 sia. the long exposure always makes colourful lights even more colorful;D

Serious...I am still quite new. I tried a lot of different settings for each shot.... Must trial and error mah

Good shots. Just watch out for the horizon. Seems most of your pictures are tilted to the right.

I'll keep that in mind. The tripod that's given to me free isn't that stable too...my camera always tilts to 1 side, so I usually lower 1 of the legs to compensate.

You can compensate in PP. but leave more room in your compensation. Whenever you do correction in PP, you lose some edges.

Hmm just some comment like that you may try low aprature mode? you using F8 on that day or lower right?

wad u mean f8 or lower?

as in f4.somthing f3.something ar

cause i doubt it. look at the photos. the dop is quite shallow. cant be a wide aperture

Sorry I mean he can use low aprature instead hmm well think he can try on F22 at 10sec maybe the light might be better? I am also on learning

agree... first time night shots with this grade??? well, then your master must be really superb...

many have this problem... try adjusting the base plate a little bit more to compensate the weak tightening issue... and i guess you should invest in a beter tripod, but not those really expensive ones... something practical will do...

Me too, have been having alot of problem with my free gift tripod when i tried to shoot like your #7. The 'meritus mandarin' wording and 'mandarin oriental' were blur, can tell the tripod was not stable, due to some sorta vibration(from the ground??).

could be due to the reason that your tripod is weak and you have extended it to it's maximum height and there is very strong breeze over there...

some have encountered that... as with the center stem fully extended, that tiny little stem cannot withstand the force of the breeze pulling your body and minor swaying is in motion which you may not have noticed...
