New to Films

Hi,

I've just started using films and bought a Yashica FX-3 2000. For those of you familiar, does it make much of a difference whether I use the default Yashica 50mm f1.9 lens to shoot, or should I get the Carl Zeiss Planar T* 50mm f1.7 which is highly rated. Will my photos really turn out that much nicer after I spend that $350 on the Zeiss?

Also, where are the more affordable places when it comes to buying and developing film? Right now I bought Efiniti200 films. Flickr has shown me that Fuji Velvia 50 seems to be the go-to film.

Do you guys have strong recommendation for any particular film? If you do please enlighten me a bit and tell me the reason for your recommendation, where I can get it and for how much.

Sincerely,
K

No two lenses are the same. The Zeiss lens will produce better image quality (in terms of sharpness, bokeh, distortion, CA, flare etc) assuming same focal length and aperture.

As to does it justify the extra cost, and you can determine that...

A iso 50 film means you can most probably be a daylight shooter only...

I have used both and difference is in the bokeh and color output

I moved to the old zeiss 50 1.4 for the Contax mount for the narrower dof and bokeh ....

anyway moving this thread

Yashica FX-3 2000 is one of the cheapest and best film camera to use with the Contax Carl Zeiss lenses :thumbsup::thumbsup:
The Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/1.7 is a good start. PM me if you want to know more of the Contax Zeiss. :)
As for film, best to try Slide film or positive film to see the wonderful rich colour.
Start with ISO 100 or 200 like FUJICHROME Sensia which is the cheapest.
Best if you can find FUJICHROME PROVIA series.
I always find FUJICHROME Velvia will give very super saturated colour especially with Zeiss Lenses.
Many like it but I find it not natural especially on Contax Zeiss lenses.
