70-300 VR

personally, i think accessories that help you take photos (eg, lenses/flash/filters/tripods) can wait at the moment. take some time to explore the gear you have now, and you will discover a photographic style that you like the most, and then get gear to suit your needs. like if you enjoy taking landscapes, a 50mm prime isnt gonna be of much use and then you can invest in a tripod.

for now, i'd suggest to get accessories that help you care for what you already have. a dry cabinet is gonna be important in our climate. a camera bag, for when you're bringing your d90 out. and maybe a rocket blower and lenspen to clean your toy once you're done with it!

I can't imagine the effort to remove reflections of a lake scene using PP as compared to using a good CPL when taking the shot.

And how does not using CPL affect WB ? Please explain, I want to learn.

Regards

haha ok ok my bad for not phrasing my reply properly.:embrass:

the fact that u can shoot in raw and make the sky more blue in PP was the reason i made that statement. HOWEVER, one thing i failed to note was as quoted from wiki
" though software post-processing can simulate many other types of filter, most of the optical effects of controlling polarization at the time of capture (particularly where reflections are involved) simply cannot be replicated in software."
ok so now i know the application for a CP filter in a digital SLR context. :embrass:

now correct me if im wrong coz in LR2 u have the Temp slider to make the color temperature warmer or cooler. and when u adjust that, in a way you are adjusting the WB. True?

ya but alot sold in BnS are either short in warranty or out of warranty, I'm scared of the risk and I wonder in photography line, 2nd hand equipment other than bodies, even out of warranty period, the price is just 100-150 cheaper than market?

you can also use a plastic bag instead

but a dry cabi is needed in this humidity
not forgetting a tripod, external flash, more lenses

the list is endless
i second this , a plastic bag is much better, i use it all the time and its waterproof.

i simply burst out into laughter when i saw this reply. :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

but to TS:

you can choose not to get a bag. its up to you how you wanna bring your camera around. i know of someone who brings around a DSLR with a lens mounted, and another one, in a sling bag without any bit of protection. its how you wish to protect your camera from bumps and knocks.. but i have to add on, nikon cameras are not as fragile as you will imagine them.. knock once and everything comes loose inside...

When i first got my dslr, i carry it around it a plastic bag.....
REALLY
but the dslr was wrapped in a lot of microfiber cloth before i put it into the plastic bag.

Fool around with your kit lens until you are bored of taking photo, then buy a 50mm prime to rekindle your interest!

dry cabinet shd be the first item...lens shd come last since all the good ones are so expensive and if you buy them and not know how to fully make use of them, it's just a waste of money.

Huh? why not just use a diaper? why waste so much microfiber cloth?

how much are dry cabinets?

are they really necessary?

Well, I wouldn't say they were REALLY NECESSARY la, but it's 1 of the "should-haves" in your shopping list if you have the $ for it.
Singapore's relative humidity is quite high, and hence ideal for the growth of fungi.

If your storage location is air-conditioned all the time, or you use your camera very frequently (especially outdoors, exposed to UV rays from sunlight), the cabinet is not necessary I guess.

On top of what others have suggested.
1) Bigger monitor
2) Better PC
3) More storage space
4) Get a portable storage device such as pdx70
5) Colour calibration equipment
6) camera strapes
7) GeoTagging device

I'm sure there are more accessories you can buy ;p
