New Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) MACRO

The last time I was in Los Bandos - Male (Maldives) was 2001. There were a lot of changes. The chalets along the beach were rebuilt into individual thatched chalets. They are very nice and comfortable.

Other than all these I mentioned earlier, Los Bandos is still a nice place to relax - if you are willing to pay for it. The water around the coral island is still crystal clear. If you love snorkeling, this is the place..

If you love under-water photography, this IS the place! Unfortunately I cannot dive and also not a competent swimmer and I am getting too old for the deep blue water!

All shots were taken with the Tamron 18-270mm lens mounted on Nikon D300.

Overall THis len is a good len... However for me I find it abit on the focusing side.. SO Im tninking of selling it away... Any recommendation on the price? Just bought it on 17 April 2009.. Use it on during my cruise on 26-29 April to penang and Phuket with my Family... It took me years to get a shot of my fast moving bb due to the focusing issue... :angry:

I believe my set it a "Grey" Set as it does not come with any warranty card.. and the Camera Workshop told me that it has a 1 yr warranty in house... Not sure what they warrant too....

:(

Might wana get A Sigma 18-200 or 18-250mm.. Any idea wat is the price for these two lens?For Nikon Mount?

acutally they it does focus fast egh for me even in low light ...i found the trick to it...focus in low light using this lens will cause the lens to "unable to focus" as it hunt for years and years in the same region hence ur camera cant shoot...however if u let it focus until it start hunting, switch to manual immediately, u shoot see the green dot on ur viewfinder light up. then just shoot...it should focus correctly.

i dun know how much u should sell...but i bought mine with 3years warrenty @ 850.:)

i just bought my local set at $930 nett foc 1 x $50 shopping voucher. canon mount though hope dat helps....

Hi All,

Latest update on the price for this lens. I just got mine from Hong Kong at HKD4000 flat!

I last visited Rome more than 10 years ago! So I took the opportunity to re-explore the city from E to W and N to S!
I left thousands of footsteps in this charming city with a lot of interesting sites to shoot,
including the Vatican City and other renowned museums and cathedrals.

All shots were taken with the D90 + the Tamron 18-270mm lens, hand-held.
When shooting indoor, I used at least ISO 800. Sometimes I had to shoot in a hurry,
because the Vatican security guards could take notice (in the Sistine Chapel).

Lacoonte - The famous sculpture

No photo-taking was allowed inside the Sistine Chapel, but I pointed my D90 from my waist-line upwards and shot this,
without the security guys noticing! (ISO 800).
The frescos painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, including the The Last Judgement;
are considered master-pieces by Micheangelo.

While the security personnel were busy asking other tourists to refrain from taking photos,
I sneaked in and took this shot, quickly. Unfortunately, I had no time to compose and to focus properly,
the photo turned out to be a bit soft. (Notice the packed room)

Shot this through the bullet-proof glass - another master piece of Micheangelo
- located inside the St. Peter's Cathedral.

My final verdict of the Tamron lens;

1. It's versatile - the zoom range is hard to beat.
I use it often so that I don't have to change lenses.
2. Slow to focus in dim lighting conditions.
3. A bit soft when viewed at 100% on a 24" monitor.
I am just a photography enthusiast, not a professional, it's good enough!
4. To me, the sharpness is still good up to 1200x800 pixels size.
A bit of PhotoShop tweaking will enhance the photos quite a bit.

For the price I paid and with a 3-year warranty, it's a bargain.
I am a thoroughly satisfied owner of the lens for my general photography.
I take my D90 camera and the Tammi with me very often to exercise my
57-year old body! It makes my walking exercise more fun. The results of the
photo-shoot is secondary.

Thank you for viewing my sub-standard photos.
I will end my participation in the forum with this last batch of photos.

Eddie,

Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos. Hope you will continue to share on this forum.

To Canon450D;

Thanks for the compliment, but I am really just a so-so, amateurish photographer.

Perhaps I should post one or two more shots to demonstrate the VC capability of this remarkable Tamron lens.
I shot this sick-looking hibiscus at home under strong sun light at around 1130hrs, hand-held with VC on.
The VC allows incredibly sharp photo to be taken at long zoom length, even hand-held, which is otherwise quite impossible to achieve.
The 3-axis VC of the Tamron is, quite simply, a remarkable technological achievement by Tamron.

Program Mode - Auto WB, ISO200, 1/800 sec, F6.3, 240mm zoom.
(Camera: Nikon D300 - Raw File. Picture Control: Neutral)
Shooting condition: Bright, direct sunlight with a light breeze.

This cute little sun bird flew right into my viewfinder in my house! I shot it with my Tamron of course.

ISO 200, 1/500 sec, F6.3, 270mm zoom.

Oh man....HKD4000 is like SGD$750. You got a sweet deal la!
I bought mine from OP at SGD$920! (nikon mount though)

what is the current price now ?

Haven't taken out my Tamron 18-270mm lens for a spin for a while. I went to the City centre at noon, yes, at noon time, the worst time to take photos, to test out this lens again.

Mounted on D300, with a cheap Kenko polaroid filter.
Camera setings: A-Priority at F8, EV 0 and started clicking away.

hi,
K7 has built in IS rite? in that case you can also consider 18-250 version..
it is smaller and lighter (and cheaper too :) )..with more or less same pic quality as this 18-270..

Here's some shots I got off at the zoo yesterday morning. Its my first nature effort. Lemme know what you think. :)

I like the lens...even if its not a fast one. Its range let's me take pictures unobtrusively.

Hi! Eunene;

Nice shots!

I have my Tamron lens for several months now.
I have sold off my D90 system.
I intend to get a second camera.
This time, it will be the D300s + the new Nikkor DX 18-200mm VR lens.
That means I am about to get rid of my Tamron 18-270mm lens.
(Warranty from Feb 2009).
I will make a posting here once I splash on my D300s/Nikkor 18-200mm VR system.
Watch out for the good news. My Tamron lens is in tip-top condition.
