I just returned from a trip to Guilin, in Kwangxi porvince of China. Guilin is renowned for its beautiful scenery, lime-stone hills and lime-stone caves.

The 2 photos below were taken inside the famous "Silver-Cave" with myriad of stalactites and stalagmites.

I shot them with the 18-270mm Tamron lens on mounted my Nikon D90 in JPEG format, hand-held of course.

ISO 2000, Shutter Speed of 1/25 sec. F3.5 and zoomed to 21mm.

I shot these 2 "boring" photos of Hong Kong 2 weeks ago using my D90 & the Tamron 18-270mm;

1. Victoria Harbour - shot from the ferry.
(F8.0, 1/800 sec, 27mm zoom, ISO 200)

2. Hong Kong itself, shot from Tsim Sha Tsui (Star Avenie)
(F7.1, 1/1250, 60mm zoom, ISO 200)

3. Victoria Harbour - Hong Kong - Shot this at night using my light-weight BENRO tripod of course..
The cloud base was quite low, covering the top portion of the IFC2 building.
(F6.3, 1/2 sec, 27mm zoom, Auto WB, ISO 200)

4. Same scene, different time, see change of colours of some buildings.
But the cloud base lifted a bit higher now..
(F5.6, 1/3 sec, 30mm zoom, ISO 200, EV -1.67)

wah u very lucky to have such a nice sun to take this 2 shoots.... when i was there last week.... the sky very dark, so picture turn out not nice.... :(

I replaced the 2 night shots with another 2 with a slightly wider view.
I did not change the colours but I did lower the highlight area just a little to push up the contrast.

wow.....very nice nite shoot!!

Here's a framed version of Victoria Harbour, covering a wider area.
I also pushed up the highlight and midtone to display more details,
at the expense of over-exposing a little more.

All my outdoor shots of Guilin were quite disappointing because of the perpetual hazy weather and poor vis.

Eddie

This shot was taken at the "Shi Wai Tao Yuan" 世外桃园 – 桂林, a tourist spot but surrounded by breath-taking limestone hills. Reminds me a lot of my birth-place Ipoh but only more scenic.

Liu Shan Jie - The singing legend of Liu Zhou, a smart girl of Zhuang tribe, lived near Guilin during the Tang Dynasty, about 1400 years ago.

Zhuang people used or sang "shan ge" 山歌 to communicate most of the time. It was and still is a living world of tribal songs and music!

The movie of the same name Liu Shan Jie 刘三姐, which was shot and released in 1961, featuring 黄婉秋 as Liu, took the Asian Chinese communities by storm, particularly in Southeast Asia, and was so popular that it made both 黄婉秋 and 刘三姐 legends.

黄婉秋 is still alive, in her late 60s now, and is generally regarded by millions of Chinese as the living 刘三姐.

黄婉秋 = 刘三姐, they are synonymous and inseparable!

Dream of Liu San Jie - 梦幻刘三姐 – 章艺谋创作

An extravaganza life performance over Guilin's scenic Li Jiang (Li River) and using actual limestone hills as backdrops, featuring no less than 500 performers, many were local volunteers.

In fact, it was this Guilin tourist attraction, designed and directed by Zhang-Yi-Mou, China's No 1 movie director, that the Beijing Olympic Committee picked him to direct the now world-renowned 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Grand Opeining Ceremony...

The stage can easily accommodate 5000 spectators (may be more, I have no idea), unfortunately, I was seated very far behind, and due to poor lighting conditions, most of my shots, even on tripod, did not turn out too well, there were too much movements by the performers, flash-light was useless, even using ISO 3200, the D90 just wasn't fast enough to freeze the motion 95% of the time.

I have taken a lot of shots, but they are just not sharp enough to post up here..

Guys & Gals,
Here are some pics taken from my 18-270mm with a D200. Just started on this new hobby.

Must say it's a sharp lens IMHO, especially for a newbie like me. Enjoy viewing! Cheers!

Eddie,
Nice shots you got there. The color rendition on the 18-270 Tamron seems good.

I was in Hong Kong yesterday. Just in time to attend the Hong Kong Flower Show 2009. The show will end on 22nd March 2009.

I shot these roses with myD90 & Tamron 18-270mm lens again - using a tripod this time.

hi,

the Tamron 18-270mm is good to have, what about the price?

Took my D90 & Tamron to San Francisco's most beautiful building - The City Hall; and took several shots.

I used the tripod in order to get some sharp & crisp images of this magnificent building.

I could not resist to take a shot at this bird perching on a column in Market Street - San Francisco.

I paid a visit to San Francisco City's famous "Fisherman's Wharf - Pier 39" - The tulips are at full-bloom - so I took my Nikon D90 and the Tamron 18-270mm and started shooting. This time, I mounted the camera on the tripod to ensure some steady shots, in order to counter the effects of he ever-present light breeze.

Of course, a visit to the Fisherman's Wharf - Per 39 will not be quite complete without taking some shots at the sun-basking sea lions!

Overall THis len is a good len... However for me I find it abit on the focusing side.. SO Im tninking of selling it away... Any recommendation on the price? Just bought it on 17 April 2009.. Use it on during my cruise on 26-29 April to penang and Phuket with my Family... It took me years to get a shot of my fast moving bb due to the focusing issue...

I believe my set it a "Grey" Set as it does not come with any warranty card.. and the Camera Workshop told me that it has a 1 yr warranty in house... Not sure what they warrant too....

:(

Might wana get A Sigma 18-200 or 18-250mm.. Any idea wat is the price for these two lens? For Nikon Mount?
