Hi,

I just bought the RipVan 100 charger from EastGear.com at Peninsula
Plaza this evening, together with 8 x Sanyo 2100 mAh NiMH AA batteries.

When I reach home, I inserted 4 of the batteries for charging.

When I set to mode 2 and turn on the charger, both LEDs light up green
which is expected.

After while (1-2 mins), the LED for the right bank turn off but the LED
for the left bank remain green.

This seems to be the problem with the charger mentioned before
in the following thread :

I thought the RipVan 100 charger I bought should be the new(5th) generation ?

How come it still has the same issue as the so call previous generation.

THIS IS REALLY DISAPPOINTING ! :rbounce:

BigBelly, EastGear - what should I do now ?

Hi KST,

It is a well known fact and clearly stated in the receipt that there is a 1 year warranty for the OEM Ripvan charger.

What you can do now is to simply make an exchange for a new charger. We will gladly test the replacement charger on the spot for you to ensure that it is in working condition. We are sorry to have you make a trip down to do the exchange.

We have seen failures in ALL chargers which we have brought in regardless of brand. To be honest, the previous batch of chargers which was sold in our shop and at COMEX 2003 experience just 3 dead on arrival chargers.

This new batch so far has been just as good with yours probably being the 2nd to experience any problem.

The failure rate of the OEM Ripvan is actually less than the Sanyo NC-MQR02 chargers which Sanyo does not give any warranty.

For those who had lost their receipt, do not worry as each Ripvan has a serial number and we know the period in which the charger was sold.

We are open from 11am to 7pm Mon - Fri and from 11am to 6pm on Saturdays. On Wed, our opening hours are extended to 8pm.

Once again, we are sorry to have you make a trip down to do the exchange. :embrass:

 service!

BigBelly,

Thanks for the prompt reply - felt more relief now.

I know there is warranty - but didn't expect to use so soon.

I know this is not within your control - just felt disappointed last nite.

I will make a trip down next week to have it exchanged.

I had a similar experience when I bought my Ripvan charger from Eastgear. Daniel's customer service attitude is first-rate ... he exchanges one-for-one, no questions asked.

However, before I took the charger for the swap, I tested it again after depleting the set of batteries once ... and guess what, the charger worked perfectly. In my case, it was probably the conditioning of the new Sanyo 2100mAH batteries that was needed, not a charger fault, and I told this to both Daniel and Matthew the next time I went down to the shop (to buy more batteries ... my DSLR has a bottomless appetite :D )

Before you make the trip down, test it first ... deplete the first set of batteries, recharge them. You can even set it to mode 1 (discharge-then-charge) if you don't want to use it in your intended device.

HTH,
Eric

PS. No business relationship with those guys except exchanging money for their products every now and again :D ...
