I bought my original mint 300 for £2000 flat, and was offered a new AF-S II for £2500.

The current new price for the AFS II is around £3250! £2500 for a new AFS II! Where... where?!?

Not that I'm interested as I'm slowly building up my Leica travelling kit! ;p

Afraid it was a one of a kind thing.

[1] Robert White were having their 20th or something like that anniversary celebrations. Only one available. This was several months ago now.

[2] A PA snapper I knew lost his and claimed on insurance, and was also given one by work so didn't need it, so he was selling that at £2500. Someone at my office bought it...

No, seriously.

See this thread.

Considering anyway, as I mention, need to find out how much it would cost me to migrate. And no, I don't really want to find out, but...

Incidentally, Szenny, if you really did want to buy long glass second hand, Fixation is usually among the best places to do it. They regularly do 300s for £1800 and they have two 600s at £3400 and £3700.

sure...

Several points. Firstly, Nikon is not losing an avid supporter. Just because I could possibly be switching systems doesn't necessarily mean that I suddenly think Nikon is rubbish. Similarly I've never considered Canon to be rubbish, just that some of their supposed strengths were not all that strong/important.

Nothing's changed, I still view Nikon as a perfectly useable tool, as I do Canon. My potential switch has absolutely nothing to do with IS, DO, widespread USM, allegedly better AF, or any other reason like that I can think of. I have four very specific reasons to consider the switch, one push and three pull factors.

I have no problem with my existing Nikon setup, and there is nothing wrong with the gear I have.

Nah, as I mentioned, don't get overly excited and ... please don't call me a Nikonian, no kampung theory for me here. In this context, call me a photographer please. ;)
