hmm, since you are new to the world of dslr, i do think that there is no need for you to change your lens at the moment... and even when that situation calls for you to replace a lens, upgrading 18-55 will be a wiser choice...

18-55 itself is a very competent lens, being light and versatile and will work wonders for ppl whom know how to work the settings to his advantage. the only drawback is the lack of wider aperture such as f/2.8 which makes shooting under low light conditions a hassle...

i will suggest that you work on your skills and also command of settings before you make the upgrade. in this case you will be able to appreciate your upgrade more! and here are a couple of lenses you can look at for replacement of your kit lens..

1) tamron 17-50 f2.8
2) canon 17-55 f2.8 IS USM
3) canon 17-40 f4L
4) canon 24-105 f4L
5) canon 24-70 f2.8L

Shooting tiger in a zoo ?? 200-300mm range may be sufficient ...
Tigers in safaris .... perhaps try >400mm plus a teleconverter ....

55-250mm is nice... relatively cheap and good .... ;)

i like to take snapshots mainly potraits , landscape and objects.

both of the lense i have is very good enuf for beginner. But i cant get very good up close pixs for animal like tiger lo, etc during my trip to sg zoo last few mths ago and also plan to go traveling end of the year end.
Thus am thinking to get some telezoom/photo lense, not sure which lens to get ..:(
doing some studies on lens , how abt this EF 28-200mm f 3.5-5.6 usm?

Sounds like two very different kinds of requirements to me.

Which is your priority?

Hey, like they said 'When you don't know what range you are lacking/need then you may not need a new lens at all'

Cheers.

for shooting animals in zoo, a 55-250mm is gd enuf. Just like Weixing said, gd low cost lens. if not, get either either 18-200mm or the cheaper 70-300mm. both OEM and third party lens are gd.

Happy Shooting!!!
