At the time I was considering to buy the E-300 (the only other E was the E-1) the SD10 was on my shortlist. It was Oly's SSWF that clinched it for me, along with the E-300 body style (since it was similar to the C-700 body style I had at the time).
Not to mention LIVE VIEW! On a "PRO" 1D Mark III! I wonder what those Canon "OVF purists" who used to sniggle and laugh off LV have to say now :bsmilie:
you must be stalking me? :bsmilie: i was "viewing/downloading/drooling" the 100% images from SD14 for about an hour earlier....... yes! wasnt it yummy ;p
but kind of funny that they dont shoot it wide open or show any higher iso pics.....
ya but some of the architecture shots is really amazing. so much detail.
The SD14 is very interesting huh. But I am not sure if it will be worth it to me as I think the sigma's advantage is only apparent if you print big or view your pics at 100%.
The s5pro is also launching. Out of the two innovative sensors, fujifilm and Fovean, I think the fujifilm's extended DR is more applicable to me to be as it's advantage is obvious even in 4R prints or digital viewing on PC screens.
That's even worse. Lets hope we are all wrong and they release a new one in a few days. It must be fully compatible (no adapters and crippled functions) with FL-50 and the rest of my stuff. I refuse to buy everything new again.
Been trying out a K10D for a few weeks. In-body "Shake Reduction" works quite well, about as good as OIS I might say, definitely more effective than Sony's AS. Image quality is shockingly good (but mostly with prime lenses) and Shriro's support is TOP notch.
I must say I'm VERY tempted to switch over... except
1. You can't just walk into a store and buy lenses even if you have the money. The good lenses are in extreme short supply. Take a number and wait. Some have waited up to a year or more. Shriro's salesperson can remember off hand what they have in stock, thats how bad things are
2. The 'dust remover' feature doesn't work half as well as Oly's SSWF. It works by shaking the moving sensor portion violently. Wonder how many times it can do this before some part of the mechanism gives way or wears out?
3. Images are very sharp, so much so that when a good lense is used, its possible to get moiré effect when shooting fine pitch details like fabrics. I suspect it may be due to the relatively weak anti-aliasing filter (like the Nikon d70).
4. In-camera JPEG output isn't optimal (not a problem when u shoot RAW).
The s5pro is also launching. Out of the two innovative sensors, fujifilm and Fovean, I think the fujifilm's extended DR is more applicable to me to be as it's advantage is obvious even in 4R prints or digital viewing on PC screens.
i prefer these in term of IQ. (havent consider pentax in the equation yet)
1) sigma sd14
2) oly DSLR
3) fuji S5 pro
s5pro noise level control for their raw files at higher iso is very impressive  DR is definitely one of the best but i have yet to see much samples around to dispute about the new "film" qualities they were quoting about during the announcement (if it is only applicable to jpeg files then can forget about it as their jpeg are kinda of disappointing).
whoa lau...... so many things to consider... :bsmilie: two more weeks to PMA
Strangely, i was looking at SD14 as well when it first announced but the first hand review of the set do not look promising.
Pentax K10D got a good review from my friend who uses Nikon before it and sell it off for Pentax... weird choice though but since he have the money to burn... Oh well...
For myself... hesistating to switch over to Canon... hiaz....
