New E-M5 Sales

Welcome :)
This is ThE one camera that turned made many APS-C or even some FF users into MFT users , enjoy shooting !

2 days into shooting with my new em5, I have to say I love it though there are so many functions still so new to me.
Yeah there will be price drop and new bundle coming out on rumors but I doubt brand new price will be same and likely higher. (Think I'm just trying to console myself) hahaha

Anyway I need some experts advise on em5: I do not know how to take macro or very close up pics... Is it the
At the 12-50 kit lens is not capable of doing so? I tired under good lights, close up but the AF did not kick in and when I try to use MF, can't seem to make it work.. :(

You have to see the lens minimum focusing distance. Macro lenses have very close distances, allowing then to capture close up shots. That's the reason why your 12-50 has a limited distance. Take your phone for example. Sometimes when you try to take very close up pics it focuses at the background instead.

Actually no need to make yourself feel better la, the EM5 is a most capable camera :) no matter what camera, even the EM-1 or A7R, prices will definitely drop with time.

The more impt qn is r u spending more time shooting on it or worrying abt these not so impt things haha.

The 12-50 has a macro fn button that has to be engaged, did u do it ? Press the macro button and move the zoom ring forward until it clicks into place. The 12-50 is capable of a min distance of around 20 cm and close to 1:2 magnification (I hope I remembered correctly)

I see I see. Didn't know that 12-50 has a function as I dont use MFT. Ignore my previous post haha.

Wah this macro function really make me feel like owning a EM-5 again. Always wanted a MFT for its portability and cool look, but as a student, sighs no $$. Should have worked double jobs in the holidays hehe.

U can always start saving again :) there are dedicated macro lenses in MFT like the Oly 60/2.8 capable of producing ever crazier macro shots. U can see them in the photo gallery threads

Could it be that the impending news of the new EM10 that is pushing the prices down for the EM5 bundles? i mean besides that its CNY festive season now.. haha..

I don't think so but we will know by tomorrow. All the rumored specs on EM10 point to a camera that sits below EM5. Hence there don't seem to be any need by Oly to drop the price.

That said, I couldn't believe my eyes when I was told the EM5 package contains 2 lenses. Cos I had the hardcopy promo for Jan and it differs from the online promo pdf. In fact, most of the stores still showthe "old" Jan promo but they do say the extra lens is from Oly SG.

Lower specs than the EM5? i really hope so. Im actually in the process to get the EM5 when i heard abt the EM10 last week.. Gonna be pretty bumped if its the other way around as i was pretty set for the EM5 with Oly 12-40mm Pro. and on top of that EM5 has that really retro look which i love and dunno how the EM10 looks like. so yeah, at this pt i really hope the EM10 will not spot that retro look.. haha.. so I have go ahead with my EM5..

If the 2 lenses are the 14-42 kit and the 14-150mm , honestly it doesn't really make a lot of diff ;)

That said , I'm interested in how the rumored upcoming pancake 14-42mm is going to perform. I'm hoping to see one where I don't have to 'unlock' to shoot.

The only real difference between the E-M1 and E-M5 is the PDAF and the MTF enhancement algorithms.

As it is, barring a leap in process technology or something, M43 is likely to stick to 16MP for quite a while.

The 2 kit lenses that come with the package are the 12-50 and 40-150. Both are not that compelling from what I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm also interested in the pancake zoom as I feel that's the unique selling point of m43. Small zooms that are not protruding out.. It could be an ideal companion for travelling.

Overall it seems like EM10 is shaping to be a direct competitor to GX7.

Let's wait for the announcement tmr :) the Oly 25mm is the one I'm confirmed getting. I believe the new kit lens will prob be overpriced for a while.

So far it's confirmed EM10 will appear but specs unconfirmed and there's rumors an EM5 (elite ver) may be on the horizon though my guts say unlike lux

Bro, u said Elite ver. How many versions are there for the EM5?

Elite ver confirmed already :)
More choices , EM5 elite , EM10 and of course EM1.

Haha but correct me if im wrong. Apparently the EM5 elite is just a facelift with textured powder coating, leather-like grip, extended ISO to 100 and bundled with the 12-40mm Pro lens.. other than that it all the same if with the EM5, more so with the silver version EM5 as it has a leather-like grip already..
