New D300S with 50mm 1.8F Question

well, i agree, you have picked quite an advanced DSLR for your first one ;p

but not to worry, i suggest you read up about basic photography on the net (there are plenty). then start reading your camera's manual (take your time!), and maybe your lens' manual also. from then on, start practicing and keep shooting

if there are questions, you can always ask clubsnap ;p

Ya.. now i spend time to read and understand more about the function... I do read the camera manual too very informative... as for the lens manual.. i didn't realize there's one in there... i thought just a piece of paper with different languages and construct, warranty etc. Will do it when free and hope to pick up some interesting facts.

Now still reading on article about photography.

I bet you have a few lens and how is the 18mm-200mm compare to the 18mm-105mm? Is both lens from Nikon?
May want to consider the above mention lens mention after getting the WAL.

18-200 is from Sigma, 18-105 is from Nikon D90 Kit lens.
My 18-200mm is more for my touring lens while my 18-105 is more like a spare lens, in case my 2nd camera needs a walk-about lens. :bsmilie:

But I gotta say, both these lens aren't the sharpest or fastest lens ard, considering the price you pay for them. However, they are more of a convinent lens for myself as they offer a great range without the need to carry more lens.

I have a Nikon 80-200 F2.8 for my telephoto & candid shooting. And a 50 F1.8 for my portrait & also learning of marco photography.

It all depends on what kind of photos you like to take. So don rush into buying too many lens, its not healthy for your pocket. Haha..

After a busy month, finally have the time to sit down & relax... and back to CS forums
I may consider a 18-200 or 18-105 lens to try and learn at the same time. Will read and find out which lens is good and within my budget then will ask you for advices.

I am saying this coz I tried a multi-lens system for the past two years and I concluded that convenience and not missing shots are more critical issues for me than a tiny increase in image quality which I am not particular about.

So I am now back to the Nikkor 18-200 with my D300s!

Ya.. after long consideration, will set on the 18-200, either nikon or tamron(18-270) depends on the price diff. Since is something new for me, i dun think i can change lens as fast as others and also a good way to prevent dust from getting in the body. It took me a while to fit my 50/1.8 onto the body;p

Because usually it is the first few weeks or months of use (depends on how often you use it) where you will discover your preferred shooting styles and subject, which will then allow you to make better decisions on which lens to buy. In my case, for example, I tend to take landscapes and buildings, so I bought a 12-24 to go along with my 18-200. Just these two lenses can fulfil all my needs liao.

Correct...the same as its predecessors. A "pro" body doesn't mean it won't have new users, and pros doesn't mean they won't ever use P!

I have this camera almost a month and only bring out for shooting only the weekend due to work commitment so I really need time to try and explorer all function before I can decide on what "pro" lens I need

Don't worry got no deadline one haha! Take your time...even if it takes years. Heck I am still learning too, as do many other photographers out there young and old.

If you are concerned about the pricing, you may wanna try out renting the lense for a day. There are companys out there that rent out lense, so that we can test and try the lense to see if its to your liking.
And check out the market place or B&S section if you don mind buying 2nd hand lense.

Ohh, btw i forget to tell you. The 18-105 lens is a D90 kit lense, and it should cost around $350-380 on the B&S section.
And I think the new 18-200 VRII lense should go for about 1k+++ for a brand new one, not too sure though.

go shoot with watever lenses u hv and learn from there.

Dude, I think he knows that. Just that he is trying to get a new lens so that he can have more flexibility.
