Taken with a A710is underwater..

Thanks. Was thinking about A630 with 1/1.8 sensor over this A710IS:dunno:

Key difference would be the flip-LCD, followed by the IS.
I've a canon a620. But given a chance, I might have choosen the 710IS.
It's much lighter.

how is the ISO 800 thingy good enough ??

Hi everyone, just joined :)

I am also looking to buy one of these 3 cameras, but have some questions which I hope to get some advise from.

1. I saw the review at http://www.dcresource.com and it states that the video mode at best quality can only last for 8 mins, or approximately 1 GB. Based on the specs, it should be using 640 x 320 at 30fps. It seems a little too low. Let's say I were to capture 640 x 320 at 15fps, is it approximatley 16mins? Or probably I can't multiply it this way?

2. I have a Lumix FX1, 3.2 megapixels with 3x optical zoom. I am not really concerned about megapixels, but will a 6x zoom be far better than 3x? If I were to take some concert shots from the kind of cheapest seats, will there be much difference of a 3x with 6x? My camera now can't take the facial expressions clearly, so I am looking for something that can at least do the basic of taking any detail shots at 30 to 40m away.

My main target now is the A710, since there is the OIS and especially the 6x zoom. The flip LCD on the A630 / 640 looks good, but the megapixels are a bit overkill for me. I usually will just take some travel photos and develop at 8R max.

If you want to use it at 6x, having OIS will be a slightly better choice.

Referring to Imaging Resource review, the camera has a constant underexpose of 1EV.

I am also thiking of buying this camera until I saw Imaging Resource reviews which stop me.

To owners of this camera, appreciate you could post some pictures without PS for comparisons.

Called MS color, they quoted $560, 512MMC and AA Battery charger for Canon A710IS...

Thanks for the replies. I just saw another post in this forum also about the limitation of the 1GB video recording. Although 8mins is good enough, we tend to always want more :bsmilie:

Wat I recalled was A710IS could take up to 4GB of SD or MMC memory. So I hope 8mins * 4 is good enuff for you. Ha.

Alternatively, you could try to take compact video, but it's kinda small.

1GB per movie, says in the manual.

damn, now A710IS is $528, e-quote from florence at ms-color, free 512mb Sd card,AA charger kit collect on the spot.
not sure included 5% gst or not yet, think maybe not, if add then its $554.40....

A540 is at $363 though, free 1G sd card,AA charger kit collect on the spot.....actually any difference in picture quality between a710 and a540, other than the optical zoom difference and OIS, any other difference?
becoz a540 is really cheap......

Yes its 1 GB per movie, and since 15fps is usually good enough for me, it will mean taking a movie clip up to 16mins.

I got a similar quote from mscolor also, stated not inclusive of GST yet. At least its cheaper than the usual retail price, just short of stuff like tripod which is seldom used. :)

Actually for the A710, the 6x optical zoom really appeals to me, that why its the only one I am considering now. For this price, none of Canon's cameras have a zoom of more than 4x.
