Hi anyone here can give me suggestion...quite new

I need to get a camera...but not those really professional type that the cam is huge and good...

wanted to get a normal but good in Zoom and lighting...as sometime go to events with the bad lighting all my photos come out are dull and cant see things...

any suggestions???

Went to see panasonic TZ 7 and Samsung WB 500....both most are the same...but when i take pics using auto mode...TZ 7 seem colour dull and WB 500 quite clear....

You can consider the Sony H20 for good zoom as well. One of my firends, who is also a lady just set her mind in getting this cam too.

Not very big, I think it's about the same size as the Samsung or slightly smaller but thicker due to the lens. It feels comfortable in my friend's small hands.

What kind of manual adjusting are you looking for?

I also wish for a camera that can zoom and good lighting and is light and can fit into my bag easily. Sad to say, you can't really have your cake and eat it too.

I see you type 'events' and 'bad lighting', and I'm thinking nightclub... correct me if I'm wrong.
The flash from pocket cameras is usually weak, and pointing forward, so you'll get images of people who look like deer that have been caught in the headlights. It's pretty hard to avoid. The newer pocket cameras probably allow you to bump up the sensitivity of the image sensor, and then apply heavy noise reduction to produce an acceptable image.

There are lots of limitations with pocket cameras. Technology keeps making them better though.

not night club....is those artists event.....like movie premium....

ya loh....cos I went to courts and 2 different branches their promoters give me different comments....1 say samsung good...the other 1 say panasonic good.....

Really mixed feeling....

Cant make up my mind on it....and i need it urgently...

i know the above recommend on sony is good....but i want to try some other brands...

currently i am using Samsung low end....my uncle give me one....for normal pic taking ok la...to my expectation....

anyone who use this 2 camera b4 can give me comments...

Please do not go to Courts. Try shops like MS Color instead.

Some camera dealers offer 0% interest with certain credit cards. Even after factoring in the rates, the prices will still be lower than what Courts can offer.

Compacts generally don't do well in low light due to their smaller sensors. If you can, go for the Panasonic LX3. Or wait for the Canon Powershot SD980 to start selling.

All are decent to good performers in low light considering their sensor sizes.

The LX3 or S90 will out perform the TZ7 in low light. The TZ7 have a much smaller sensor and slower lens.

really worried about recommending a camera, because eventually the results might still be disappointing. Low-light situation + hand-holding + no possibility for external flash... I think even my DSLR might struggle in that situation... So if I recommend Panasonic LX3, which I think is one of the better compact cameras out there, and the results are still not to expectation, then how? Would you feel like it's $700 down the drain?

My friend just bought her Sony H20 today and I had a chance to play with her new cam for a while. It's a very easy to use cam and like you my friend wants a good zoom range hence decided to try this cam. One thing to note is that the LCD looks very noisy but when you review the pictures, it's very sharp and cannot see the noise. Not sure why also. Anyway my friend is happy with it.
