New Alternative to DJI Phantom?

The X350 looks like a very capable quadcopter. Does it have support for Gimbal attachment? The controller looks much better than the DJI stock controller.

BTW, there are good deals in the states for phantom V1 + Zenmuse H32D … I think can get both combine for less than USD$700 now.

Local hobby retails are still selling at stupid prices.

I saw a black friday deal for the phantom V1 at $3xx but I did not buy because shipping and gst kinds of add up.

I think so. I read online someone has done it but you probably need to modify quite a bit. I noticed a red/black connector sticking out of one of the legs so I assume that is to power something?

I realised my QX100 can be mounted on the camera adaptor, but not movement so it is fixed. But the adaptor cost like $5. Super cheap. I basically can get my QX100 airborne with under SGD500 :) the trick is whether I dare to do it....

need more piloting test before I send the QX100 in the air. The QX100 has optical stabilization so hopefully I can snap some nice pics.

To get any decent usable video we definitely need a gimbal to stabilise the camera. DJI provides lots of option for such. Just wondering if the X350 have such support from the vendor.

I am more interested in stills. My QX100 comes with open API and there is an IntervalCam APP which I am thinking of just using it to snap one shot per second or something like that.

Did you get the zenmuse with your phantom? It is kind of expensive for me as I am just thinking of doing this as a hobby. For what I am thinking, a QX100 on a pole might work better..... but less fun I guess.

I am also doing it as hobby, but along the way there are some paid assignments, so it helps.

I got the Zenmuse after I became more confident in my flying. I did many research and comparison on the gimbals. Zenmuse seems to give the best value/integration.

With 2 -3 assignments, the cost of the investment will be taken back already. It helps you to land yourself with assignments when your equipment can produce acceptable outputs. :)

Thats nice to hear … Zenmuse is currently the CHEAPEST solution for stable, commercial-viable video capturing. Of course, some commercial projects need better quality than go pro but for some companies, its good enough and 'cheap' enough.

Forget about all the others like x350 or tarot gimbals. They might work but there are too many 'uncertainties' in them unless you are just doing completely hobby related stuff. And best thing is Phantom and Zenmuse are having good deals currently that makes the price difference vs quality difference very worth (to get the phantom compared to others)

what deals are there for the phantom and zenmuse? I heard DJI might be releasing a phantom 2 pro which has the extended battery and a gimbal.

Amazon.com for benchmark prices … During black friday sale, buying both will cost you less than USD$700. (excluding shipping and tax)

Phantom v2 coming out only in Jan 2014 and for me, i would completely avoid the first 2 batches sold.

Every single item they sold have issues with the first batch and after that, they will make some changes and thats when consumers should buy.

And you might have to wait 4-5mths after launch to get a stable product.

some shops are already listing the phantom 2. the price looks very attractive for the gimbal bundle. The 25min air time I think is great.

Singapore Hobby and RP Innovations will be selling it, check with them. This is a very good buy. Would have gotten this if it was out 3 months ago.

Just a quick check at DJI.com and realised that what is stated on the atlantahobby site is a customise Phantom 2. The original Phantom 2 is called Vision and will come with their build in camera.

Yup Lighting. The real Phantom v2 is NOT announced yet … Now they are concentrating on Phantom2 Vision and delay the V2 tip Jan.

Thanks for the update XsenseX. Actually even the V1 is good enough. Today I did more filming at Gardens by the bay. I flew from Marina Barrage to GBTB. It was a scary experience as my controller ran out of batt half way and the copter went on auto pilot to return home. Thank God for the DJI precise GPS navigation, it manage to return and land just at the edge of the barrage where it took off. If there was a 1m error, it would have landed in the waters!!!

Lesson Learned, please do not start your flight near water, have at least a 10m by 10m clearance and you should stand in the middle of it.

Wow! Thanks for sharing the lesson!

if they ever reply that is....

Jet Hobby do not have a lot of spare for DJI products. Pricing are more or less similar. So places sell certain things more expensive, some other things cheaper.
