I see a lot of people selling their 50/1.8D on CS now...
Still waiting to see more photos from the 1.8G to see if I can appreciate the difference or not.

Yeah, the video gives a fairly accurate account of what the new 50/1.8 can do.
I've used many 50mm lenses from different manufacturers and even though I am not in need of yet another 50mm lens, the moment I tried it out in the shop, I knew I had to get one. At less than $300 for an aspherical f1.8 lens, I think it is worth every cent. If you were to erase the word Nikon on the lens and replace it by Leica, people will pay 10x more for it!
The aspherical element improves not just sharpness but contrast as well. F1.8 on the new lens is like f2.8 on the old one since the coma aberration has now been corrected.
It's a pity Nikon did not include an aspherical lens into the 50 1.4G as well...

Looks like Nikon is slowly revising all its other prime lenses into AFS.
They did up the consumer 50f1.8, they probably be working on their 20f2.8/24f2.8/28/35 etc ..
That will be addressed in the future AFS 50f1.2G

The new great primes like the 35mm and 85mm f1.4G also don't have aspherical element, but they still can give excellent IQ. So it doesn't matter.

tested it this morning. Brokeh is ok but not perfect. But to be fair to Nikon, the listed price is SG$339 and it is a 1.8 afterall. Can someone advice me on Sigma 50mm f/1.4? I read a few articles that the AF has some problem and need calibration. Is it true?

Im a newbie and would like to know if I can use this lens on a dx camera? Mines a d5100. So I've got no auto focus motor in my camera. Can I use this lens?
You can use any AF-S or AF-I lens with your D5100.
I recently bought a 35mm f1.8G for my D40x which also doesn't have an integrated motor.

But it's stated under fx in nikon. And mine is a dx camera. So im wondering if itll affect the image outcome. Thanks for the info though!
fx lenses are all usable on dx but just with crop. In fact, it should theoretically work better since you are using a smaller portion of the glass aka the sweet spot of the lenses.
dx lenses can also be used on fx bodies. Thats the beauty of Nikon. Either you shoot it in DX mode on the FX camera or just leave it in FX. If you shoot wide open, some DX lenses perform well eg. Nikkor 35mm f1.8g.
One thing I notice is that the cheaper AFS lenses focuses slower. That is a pain actually. Also, not being able to "feel" the focus lock (grinding of the lens comes to a halt), really dampens the feel a little. =)

It will work on DX, but keep in mind that on DX DSLRs, you're getting a 75mm (FF-equivalent) instead of 50mm due to the crop factor. As such the image you'll see on Dx camera will appear slightly closer than Fx (crop-factor advantage/disadvantage), so when you compose for portrait shoot - you'll most likely require a few steps backwards than if you're using Fx camera. There ought to be differences such as thinner DOF if you use it on FX camera, but I doubt you'll be able to make that difference out unless you compare between images taken with both DX and FX bodies.
Nikon most likely produced this lens so that all their camera models, particularly D60/3000/3100/D5000/D5100 can enjoy this focal length with the ability to Auto-focus with a much affordable price than an AF-S 50mm f/1.4G. Previously, entry level body users are left to hung dry because D model 50mms requires an in-body motor to AF which they do not have, and to fork out a premium for the 50 f/1.4G is a bit too far-fetched (as it costs as much as the entry-level bodies).
Therefore, you needn't worry - just get it and have fun! But before you do that, be sure that you're comfortable with the Focal Length... This is basically personal preference - some feels it's too narrow or too wide, depending on what you want to shoot and what is your comfortable distance from your subject.

I tried to upload a sample to show you the brokeh of this lens but took hours and still not working. the file is only 64K. And it is JPG. Can anyone advice?

You need to upload the photo to an image hosting site (eg. Flickr, photobucket, etc). Clubsnap galleries does give each member a bit of space for uploading some images, though not a lot.
After uploading to the site, you can then link the URL of the image to your post.
You cannot upload an image directly to your post, like attaching a photograph to an email...
