New!!! 50mm f1.8 G lens

One black number not enough :p At least 6 sets of number or 4 numbers.

The price of lens is expected to drop slowly but surely. I dun see why is there a need to upgrade to this, and my mind is set for Sigma 50mm F/1.4. Whahahaa

well.. not every1 sees a need to shoot at f/1.4, so they get the 50 f/1.8 instead furthermore it's alot cheaper :x

or like me... i wanna get a sigma 50 f/1.4 but my wallet doesnt allow me to

but sure enough, there's no reason to "upgrade" to this lens when they had alr owned any of the 50mm primes

the bokeh does look a wee bit nicer from some of the test/review photos I've seen online.
Selling away the 50/1.8D and getting the 50/1.8G may involve an outlay of about $150-180 thereabouts.
My wallet probably will allow such an expenditure :)

i love bokeh and want a nice outdoor lens now struggle to choose between 50mm1.8g and sigma 50mm1.4 and advise ? is 50mm 1.4d &1.4G bokeh very bad ?i using D90 btw

Share a pic taken with the 50mm... loving it!

and it is tack sharp... specially dedicated to those who said it is not... Try beating that, 1.8*. ;P

*note - just joking. individual experience may vary. Results is largely dependent on the individual using the particular product. :P

first things first... do u need the f/1.4 aperture? coz if u spend most of the time stopping down, i'd rather u get the 50 f/1.8g since it's alot cheaper.

sigma's 50 f/1.4 is great, n the bokeh produced by this lens is smoother than the nikon's own 50 f/1.4 D/G, but u pay more for it.

u can watch this vid for a comparison between the 3 fast 50's: 50 f/1.8D, 50 f/1.4G n sigma's 50 f/1.4

then the 50 f/1.8D vs the new 50 f/1.8G (which i had posted before i believe)

finally, the 50 f/1.8G vs 50 f/1.4G

that was taken using nikon's 50 f/1.4D? seems good :)

u got a point there.. the bokeh produced by the D version is pretty edge heavy, n can be pretty distracting. the G version is smoother, n from digitalrev's video when he compared it with the f/1.4G, the bokeh of the f/1.8G is pretty similar to the bokeh of f/1.4G at f/1.8.

still, i dun feel the improvement in performance of the f/1.8G over the f/1.8D is justifiable enough for the additional price to fork out to get the f/1.8G after sellin the f/1.8D. well, to each his own bah..

;)

BTW There is another lens very good. But it is MF. The voigtlander Nokton 58/1.4

ahh... seen the 2nd hand price in B&S. it's about the price of a brand new grey set sigma 50 f/1.4 >< n my wallet is suffering from low cash pressure

seen photozone's review of this lens... i haf to say that this lens is pretty solid under lab tests

Nice! Stop posting stuff like that.... Make us drool.... Can feel BBB virus coming..... Must.... Resist....

Do note that the Nikon 50mm F/1.4G is more ex than the Sigma's.
But reviews and test shows Sigma perform better at widest aperture while nikon produces consistent result throughout the aperture settings.

definitely it's a personal choice.
I will sit on it, maybe for a few more months :)

I suppose Sigma is better because of bigger and better glass? Considering the size of it.

Used to be they are almost the same price level. Now with alternative buying choices, it is around 200-300 cheaper. ;P

Plus, the sigma50 now comes in the same finish as the sigma85. Nice and smooth, no longer with that rough peeling coating we all hate. ;)

Bro, in your case, I would really recommend going for the 1.8G. ;)

Or you can go sigma too. ;P

But seriously, the sigma50 is a huge chunk of glass, heavier than your 85.

Rented it and tried b4. It's amazing. F/1.4 wide open with such smooth bokeh. Worth every of my rental penny.

the 50 1.8G is only $249 on DD Electronics
