Neverending (Servicing) Story...

This is a continuation of this thread (since the saga is still continuing!):

I will name the shop here and now. The name of the shop is DDElectronics (DDE, DD Electronics) Singapore, and I have been liasing with Mike for the servicing / return of the said lens in the above thread. Why have I decided to name the shop openly now ? Well I think its no longer an issue of me getting my lens back, but the whole process that has become an epic saga itself.

Following the closing of that thread, I have been calling them at least twice a week asking for updates.

Week of 3rd June - Lens didn't come in, called, talked to Mike, we laughed at how ridiculous the situation was (yes, I laughed at the situation and he laughed with me). Told me that how the supplier couldn't get the lens for me. Asked me to check back on next Tues to see if the shipment comes in.

Week of 10th June - Checked with them on Tuesday, lens did not come in. Asked me to check on Friday/Saturday. Called them on either Friday or Saturday, he said that it should be coming in on next Tuesday and he will send it via courier when it arrives and will include a free gift. I asked him if he knew my address, he said yes.

Week of 17th June - Lens did not turn up at my door on Tuesday, gave them another 2 days, called them on Thursday, said it didn't come in, supplier had problems getting it in Canon mount. No ETA available. Asked me to check back again on Fri/Saturday. Called on Saturday, he seemed to be busy, said will call me back in 15 minutes, didn't call back, I called back 45 mins. Told me the lens is not coming in today. Told me he will call me back on Monday. I told him I will call him back on Monday.

I have been patient and relatively polite with DDE throughout all the correspondences, but please don't flame and troll me for being so. It isn't wrong to be patient and polite...

Perhaps I am beyond unhappy already, and perhaps I just want to see how long the story can go on before I get it back.

I would advise you to ask for a refund. It is ridiculous that they have taken such a long time.
Send them an email quoting all that has happened and tell them you will be going to CASE unless you get refund or replacement with fresh 1 year warranty within one week.
 

Hey, I feel for you. Hope you can get your lens back soon. Worst case you can go to CASE.

Hmm, I wonder whether the lens will be available if I make a fresh new order online now.....

U need to bring some tough guys there TS. It cost a few grand and is no small amount. Maybe bringing the press will help also....
 

I thought about that actually.. if I had made a new order, would it be available ? If there are people who have ordered a Sigma 120-300mm OS in canon mount and have received it between Jan-Jun, please let me know.

For now, I have no intention of strong-arming them or going to CASE yet. Lets just see how they actually treat a customer who tried to play nice. This will show their true colors.


I will update the progress here as I get updates from them. How more epic they want it to be, is really up to them.

Actually from your experience we can already see how this shop treats a customer that plays nice.

This cat n mouse game has gone on for far too long for you I think. It seems to suit DDE fine though, so be prepared to drag it out even longer if nothing changes.

These days when I drive past the shop n glance in, it seems like the shop is quite bare. Is business booming or bad? Just in case this shop suddenly close down like those unscrupulous spas n you can really kiss yr lens goodbye.
 

They just expanded into Malaysia and have a shop in JB. I guess export biz still good but online orders must have dropped at least 70% locally since the tsunami.

I won't want them to go bust for sure, but TS case really make me consider whether it is worth buying from them in the future.

actually i bought my 17-35 from them at $1k lesser compare to warranty set
i seriously just hope nothing will go wrong within 1yr.

when u buy anything from any salesman
they will tell u " everything also can, can till the cow comes home"
but when problem comes they seriously wont give a damn
trust me

another grey shop also mentioned
within 1 yr any problem, u send to service center and we pay u for your repair fee
well ... hopefully this is the case
 

Update 25th June 2012 (Monday):

Wanted to call them today, but was busy at work till late, so was unable to call (they close at 8pm).
Just dropped Mike a mail to ask if there are any updates.

I have also attached this url (http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/consumers-corner/1114158-neverending-servicing-story.html) in my mail to let him know about this thread and my intentions to update it as I get updates (or lack of)

Update 26th June 2012 (Tuesday):

Received a reply from Mike from ddelectronics saying that the lens will arrive on friday or I will get a full refund.

Will update again.

Update 29th June 2012 (Friday):

Called them up to enquire about the status. Apparently lens is not in yet. Asked me to call back either tonight or tomorrow morning to check if the lens will be in early next week. If it is still not in, I will get a full refund.

Why you don't just get the full refund now as they promised you ?
 

Noticed something in every thread u post? You call them, call them call them.... Gt the refund and run far far.
 

Frankly... if I were you, I would not bother waiting anymore, go down to the shop and get a full refund from them, then use that money to get a new lens from elsewhere. Very obviously the shop is not being honest to you. They will drag as much as they can for whatever reason. And worst thing, you get back your lens, unrepaired or damaged... seriously, just get the refund and end the story.

This time he told me that I made him famous on the internet :D haha so lets see if that changes anything.


I would still prefer to have the lens than to have $$ back because it is difficult to buy the lens at the price I bought it. And I have bought like accessories like lenscoat, arcaswiss lens plate for it.. so its a greater loss if I get back $$ instead of the lens.

If they read this thread, let them know I'll never buy from them and advise my friends not to do so too.
 

I've bought a couple of lenses from them earlier. But had a bad experience with my last lens.
They took a long time to get it in stock and i got two mails saying the lens was in stock only to go there and realise it was a mistake.
To make things worse, I got to know that they gave a discount to another person who had the same issue but not to me.
Haven't been there since and not likely to any more.
 

I feel TG is the new online grey market leader locally, the magical shop that never exist yet could satisfy quite many local buyer. Although the weekly discount may not be much, it does give buyer the little incentive to order on weekends and "hope" the lens will be on sale.

I can truly find some real discount from Nikon equipments in TG compare to DDE...
 

TS, I really admire your patience. I really dunno what I would do if I was in your shoes (but you can be assured I won't sit back and do nothing).
A pity TG does not carry the lens you are looking for, they only have the Non-OS version.
