Negatives not properly dried

Hi guys, got some questions regarding negatives. I just dug up an old bunch of negatives and found out that many of them have dried chemical stains on them. Some of them are sticky. How do u think i should remedy this problem and store the negatives in the future? I was thinking of digitizing all my negatives but wasnt sure whether i would be able to get good scans from those damaged negatives now.

Can wash with distilled water and dry again.

how are the stains? purplish or just dried colourless blotches here and there?

if they're the latter, then just soak them in water for 20-30 mins or longer if required, then proceed to hang-dry them with or without photoflo.

thanks for the help guys, it works. they get damn sticky when wet tho.
