hi,

i did some research and narrowed my choices down to these 3 camcorders.

canon legria r48
sony pj 380
jvc everio ex515

anyone here have experiences with these camcorders?
will be much appreciated if you can share it with me.
to others looking for camcorders, which one will you choose?
my budget is around $1000.

oh panasonic v720 is not shortlisted because of the low battery life. does the pros of v720 outweigh the battery life?

thanks in advance for any input!

Pay a little more for PJ660. You get very much much more bang for buck. Sony batteries can last 8 hrs

pj660 sorta overkill for me. this will be my first camcorder. so i reckoned around $1000 will be fine for me.

PJ660 is around $1000+. It used to be that entry level camcorders have mic-inputs, volume control and headphone jack. But these audio features are all missing in PJ380.
I think they are essential at the $1000 price point. If you don't need audio features, $500 gets you good video.

You will also be saving money and the heft of a wideangle adapter if you buy PJ660. At 26mm, it is the widest angle on any camcorder.
And for the price of entry alone. The Sony Balanced Optical System - not available on PJ380.
This feature is a remarkable advancement on OIS technology that is miles ahead of anything on the market. You will notice the difference.

Otherwise the Everio is a good choice for the audio capabilities.

from what i see on sony.sg the 660 costs $1699.
im willing to pay maybe $1200 tops for a camcorder right now.
how about the canon r48?

btw thanks so much for your input. very much appreciated.

R48 is missing wide angle, mic-in , headphone jack. 25fps mode ,Inteilligent zoom...
EX515 has these features I like.

PJ660 without promotion is around $1500 at most shop. I got mine during promotion, worth the $. A lot of accessories too, but now without the trade in promotion, you can consider if you got the extra cash. Else get those GWP88, not bad too, water proof some more, provided you comfortable with the holding. :D

any idea where to get jvc ex515?
tried to google but cant find where is it available.
i went down to mustafa yesterday night. they have other models but not this.

just went down to challenger funan. they dont carry any jvc products.

Hai Chew at Sim Lim Sq is another JVC authorised dealer.
If EX515 is not availalble locally, get the EX555 instead. Same camera but with internal 16GB memory
