Need some information on ISO

oh i wanted to know cause my friend sort of grilled me on introducing him 500D cause he hated the noise although its the only DSLR within his budget

your friend needs to learn how to use a camera.

i dont know when i said its best to shoot in 100ISO he often say that i dont understand and shooting at high iso would be good so im sort of confused
and he justifies this with?

if he were my friend, and it was a real friend, i would sound him out thoroughly.

erm i wish to ask whether the ISO machine or chip in 500D is the same as 50D or any other higher models cause my friend constantly complain that his 500D is noisy at 800 ISO and should have bought 50D or some higher model which is quite annoying since 500D is the only one within his budget

So if i shoot 500D in 800ISO will it be the same with other canon models in 800ISO?

I don't understand your friend's complaint. The photo below was shot by "Draken413o" using a 1000D. I don't see why buying a 50D will enable your friend to take better pictures than a 500D?

i think we shld recommend 5d instead....

sorry, just TCSS

the common reason i have heard when it comes to justifying this upgrade is simply:

"cos it looks more pro and feels more pro"

maybe the confidence will improve. :bsmilie::bsmilie: so the shots remain the same, but now he thinks his shots are better because he has shot the picture with more stylomilo style.

I've read this four times, and I can't get what you're on about.

maybe i should use punctuation =.=

"When I said "It's best to shoot in 100ISO since high ISO cause noise, he often say that i don't understand and shooting at high ISO would be good, so im sort of confused."

Another thing is he said lens hood are useless and I was like =.= ........ cause he said the main purpose of a lens hood is vignette the image and polarizing filter just makes the picture darker, at that point im smashing my head to the wall...

Not as imba as the 1000D picture, but this is taken by Canon S5 IS Digicam:

Lens hood is definitely NOT useless. And i seriously doubt it causes vignette. At most it will block the flash. It helps protect the front element from bumps and knocks, keep away prying fingers from the front element and ultimately prevents lens flare which can ruin the colour and contrast of a photo. I find it more useful than a uv filter in some aspects. Can't wait to get lens hood for my new efs 15-85 on 500d. :)

And if he is so anal about noise in high iso ask him to sell all his canon and get a nikon d3s or something if super clean high iso is what he wants. There are so many ways to avoid noise or high iso for that matter. Proper exposure, using flash, using tripod, using fast lens, removing noise in post production etc.

whats wrong with the 500D ISO performance? I think its pretty good for the price range you pay. 800 ISO looks fine to me, and 1600 is still very usable. At 3200ISO pretty much every canon crop body cam starts to get pretty damn noisy

I must be crazy but when I was hiking in the Himalayan mountains, I left my 7D behind as a back-up and exclusively used the 450D 'cos it was so much lighter to carry around.

CA quite obvious
or am i seeing things?
Yeah, CA is obvious at corners due to the fisheye lens. BTW, which resolution r u looking at? 1600px or 640px?
