wah...just a piece of magnify glass cost so much?

A loupe is no magnifying glass, just as a lens is no ordinary magnifying glass. It is designed for close-up viewing of slides, prints and negs. Good ones are corrected for distortion, colour fringing etc, that's why they cost more (just as good lenses cost more). If you've looked through a $10 loupe, a $50 loupe, then the Rodenstock, you'll know what I mean.

Please don't try Schneider, unless you're ready to buy. :D

And you don't need to hold the slide to the monitor, and stick your face up to it (and get all that radiation). ;p

It is not just a piece, Rodenstock 4x loupe is 2 element if I am not mistaken.

A good lightbox is corrected to certain colour temperature (5000K), the surface is ultra smooth...

if you like to take slides / view slides , it is good to invest a bit more $$ for these accessories ...

BTW , I am happy with the Kaiser Slimlite Lightbox and a PEAK 8x Loupe ...

Where to get the Peak 8x loupe? Any other good 8x or 10x at around this price? How's the build quality of the Peak loupe? Any photo to show here (come on...you have a digicam right...?)

Does anyone know, when will this promotion end?

CP . 8x is enough for me ... so far it meets my requirement ..

Peak 8x 35mm Format Magnifier
Designed for viewing 35mm negatives and transparencies.
This magnifier fully covers the 24mm x 36mm area of the 35mm format. The acrylic lens focuses for individual eyesight. Its clear plastic skirt prevents shadows, and graduations on the skirt facilitate placement of crop marks to use in enlargements. Includes cord to hang magnifier around neck when working with medium and large format cameras and focusing on ground glass.

Thanks! But...this loupe can't view full frame 35mm film, right? R u using it to check for sharpness as the main purpose?

Promotion? I thought the loupe (peak) and the Kaiser light box are sell separately? I definitely don't want another lightbox...or panel...

Me interested in venturing into the world of slides, any good
advise on choosing a good lightbox as well as other related
accessories? :D

It is separate. The promotion is only for the Rodenstock 4x Aspheric + Cabin CL5000P Lightpanel. I also don't want another lightbox, so what I did is to buy the bundle and sell the panel. :) Just doesn't make sense to buy them singly.

Lightbox/panel : Get a colour corrected one. Minimum you can get is 4x5". Better if you get 5x7" or larger.

Loupe : If you can afford, get a good 4x for general viewing, 8x or more for checking critical sharpness. Affordable 8x would be the Peak 8x which megaweb mentioned.

If you can afford, buy the Rodenstock/Cabin bundle. It's a very good deal.

Lightpanel/lightbox : The flat thing with a large, even light source.

Loupe : The high class magnifying glass to see your slide/neg in detail.

Or...if you can't afford, wait for the 2nd hand one. I bought my Rodenstock + Cabin at just S$90. Excellent condition!;)
