Hello people. It's me again =X
I'll be shooting a production album for some friends for their play.
I think it'll be a location shoot in the evening, and I'll need some help here:

1. What kinda lighting should I use? Diffused flash or ambient or ambient + fill?
2. What lenses should I use? I got a 24-70 f/2.8, 105 f/2.8. If you guys could lend a 70/80-200 f/2.8 it'll be nice so I can have a nice versatile range.
3. Or would a 50mm f/1.4 do?

Cheers, advice appreciated!

Usually plays are in darkness, except on the stage.

Imagine in total darkness, and you shooting your flash. Wouldnt it be blinding?

I have 1 experience in shooting a play(something like that) for my school. No lights in the audience area, only on stage. There was some round/blue light thingy pointing at the performers(fluorospot if I am not mistaken).

I shot at ISO 1600, F5.6, 1/100th of a second on a Canon 350D(Opps), at 300mm using a baldhead. That was if thefluorospot was there.

If not there then between 1/30th-1/80th of shutter, at the widest aperture.

Hope this have been helpful.

Hello. Thanks for the tips!
I know how to shoot the play, and @ ISO 800 f/2.8 anything decent should be manageable. I'm shooting a production album i.e. pix of the cast/crew etc. I'm a lil worried cos RJ's lighting system can sometimes be atrocious.

i'd say shoot the whole lot since its an album shoot. use every possible combination, why limit yourself to just a particular setup? surprises and success often come about from experimentation and risk-taking. ;)
