Need Help with Tripod

hello guys,

i would like to ask for your opinion. need help on deciding on what tripod to use. i know that i have to reconsider the total weight of my camera. currently, the heaviest setup that i have (i really don't know the total weight...) is my nikon d90 with battery grip (with 2 battery), sb600 speedlight and 18-105mm kit lens..

kindly advise on what tripod to buy.. i'm hoping i can buy between $200-250..

i hope you can help me guys.. do advise also where i can buy it... thank you in advance! :angel:

I'd suggest you go down to a couple of shops with a decent selection of tripods (TK Foto & Cathay come to mind) and get a feel of the real thing. There are lots of other considerations besides just the max load. Ball head / pan head; lever locks, flip locks or twist locks; do you need one that can go really low; reversible centre column etc. A lot of personal choices.
Oh, and you can reduce your load on the tripod by not bolting on that battery grip.

All the manuals state the weight of the components, these specs are also available online. Please do some Maths
There are so many brands, models, options and features available in the market.. what kind of recommendation do you expect? It's like asking "I need to get to work, kindly advice which car to buy." Please do your homework, make yourself familiar with the topic. That's the reason we have all the sticky threads where members of the forum have collected useful information. Finally, it's your money and it's you who will use the tripod. why to do 'outsource' it to people you don't know?

Like what others had suggested, go down to the shop and test the tripod up. Basically many tripods would fit your bills, I would suggest getting a better one so that you would not need to upgrade later on when you have heavier setup.

I did a simple writeup on one of the Sirui tripod and ballhead, it is pretty alright, only a bit heavy.

We have the benefit of hindsight to help you.

Some things you may want to consider:
1) How much weight am I intending to support with my tripod? Is this weight extremely off-center (eg. long lens, macro flash setup, etc)?
2) How tall do I want my setup to be when fully deployed?
3) How low do I need my setup to go?
4) Do I require adjustable center column?
5) How small do I want my tripod to be when folded?
6) How heavy a tripod am I willing to carry around most times?
7) What kind of clips/locks do I prefer for the leg sections?
8) How much am I willing to spend?
... and probably more I missed out

Choice of tripod head requires additional questions.
1) Ballhead or pan/tilt head or maybe even gear head?
2) Arca-swiss or proprietry style of clamp?
3) budget?
