Need help with IR filter

Which size or what type of IR filter should I get for my lens

I am currently using a sigma 30mm f1.4 and a tamron 17-50mm f2.8

Advice and help appreciated!!

The size is based on the thread diameter of the lens. It's printed right on the front of the lens.

As for type, up to you, though the Hoya IR72 are popular.

Just buy the IR filter based on the bigger diameter tween the 2 lenses, then buy a $10 step up ring. This will allows you to try the filter on both lenses.

Doesn't really matter for either... You would need to do your own testing to see which is more susceptible to hotspots. The IR subforum is a better place to ask.

Have shot with the tamron before, not realli any hotspots. Doable but pp is tedious.


it's 67mm for the tamron, not sure of the 30 1.4
