Hi,
I am looking to buy a pro level camcorder. I intend to shoot shortfilms and TVCs. Which camera would you suggest and why? As I am new to Video, all your views on cameras would help me give insights and make a decision.

I am pretty open on the budget but would like to point out that I am a new bee wanting to be a video pro

A budget range would really help. Some people define high as 2k, some people have tens of thousands......

the moment TVC came up, it'll be nothing less than the RED camera or at least a DVCProHD or sony HDCAM cinealta camera. anything less, you'd be in the league of low budget low-end TVC productions.

Red or XDCAM p700...

Thanks for the note on budgets. I think a budget of about 8K. So what options do I have now? I think Red is ruled out based on budget

I have Sony HDR-FX1 I use this camera to produce short documentaries on a professional level. It has that Sony camcorders style along with their familiar interface making it very easy to use and get the hang of so to speak. I'm loyal to Sony brand and their HD camcorders are the best video quality available on the market today.

Hold all purchases on high end camcorder until 2010. Sensor size will increase 4 folds and there will almost be certainty autofocus video lense systems from Canon's answer to the RED ONE challenge. Panasonic is likely to have the technology, and Sony will play catch-up at some point. The canon full frame camcorder is rumored to be priced around USD8000. If you look at the DLSR with movie modes, the writing is really on the wall.

The camera does not make a cameraman. If you can't produce good work even with cheaper cam, expensive toys won't help.
