What is the purpose of a VF? to view through the little screen for better holding. Using LCD is to review your shots not to use it to take photos.
dun understand your 1st question. What are you trying to ask?
Aiyoh is optical viewfinder , not electronic one ...
A slr has a mirror inside to reflet what is coming throung the lens so what you see is what you get on the sensor ...
You comparing to thoes M4/3 where got EVF isit ?

my newbie suggestion is that if u're gonna graduate to a dslr, use the viewfinder and not live view to focus. as someone already pointed out, use the viewfinder to frame your shot, use the LCD to view it after u take it to make sure its ok.
holding the camera up to your face and looking through the viewfinder allows u to hold the camera more steadily, instead of using 2 hands to hold the sides and looking at the LCD.
another reason is because u need the other hand free to zoom or manual focus. how to do that if both your hands are holding the side of the camera
also, dslr, unlike PNS is pretty chunky... and if u're using a slightly heavier lens like the 55-300, or any of the DA* lens with SDM, u will need the other hand to support the lens.
i find holding the dslr out with 2 hands like a PNS and trying to focus with LV quite impractical and tiring :sweat:

Interestingly, I've seen a couple of shooters doing likewise at eye level. Besides learning about manual settings (ISO,Aperture, Depth of Field, etc) guess PnS/Prosumer upgraders have to acclimatize to DSLR shooting posture too. Then again, I keep using the VF on my G9 only to discover a tiny cropped off view, before promptly switching to LV. :sweat:

the cropping happens to me too... still getting used to it but my personal beef with the LV on k-x is the annoying "mirror slap"... i like the sound of the screw drive and shutter as it gives me a "re-assuring" sense that the camera is doing its work but introducing another source of noise when i'm shooting is just plain irritating :sweatsm:
its like telling the whole world "look at me! i'm taking a picture" :embrass:

I came really close to going down to to get a Kx body today.. finally chose this over D90 cos its nearly 200gs lighter.. and that it uses AA batts..
BUT... the deal breaker came when I was told by SLRR that they did not know when Tamron 17-50 would have stocks.. if the stocks didnt come, i would just get the kit with a good 50mm, is the FA50mm F1.4 still being sold? anyone knows of where i could get this 50mm and/or the tamron?

I might be selling my 1week old SMC FA50mm F1.4. Waiting for my Sigma 30mm F1.4 to reach me mid next week before making my decision.
Anyway, dun mix up the 17-50 Tamron with the FA50mm. They are completely different and serves 2 completely different purposes. If you want a good walk around lens, just get the Tamron or Sigma 18-200mm multi-purpose zoom lens. All in one and at a reasonable price. The zoom will come in handy anytime. The FA50 is more for low light or potrait shots.
