Hi TS. Glad to hear that you are interested in K-x.
I know you have concerns over the future of upgrading camera body to say a FF which Pentax doesn't offer yet.
I'll say this to you, don't worry about all the upgrading issues. There's always a BNS forum which you can sell away the good old stuffs. Photography is not just about achieving to the highest model there is but also acquiring the skills to compose, meter, capturing the moments that will last in fond memories. All these skills do take time to master. (For me, I think it'll take years)
A pro can use a PNS (with manual function) camera and achieve nicer pictures than me right now. :bsmilie:
So, my point is whether you choose Nikon or Pentax, make sure you enjoy the "right now".![]()
With much deliberation, I chose Canon 1000D. I was impressed how statistically Pentax K-X beat even those canon and nikon $1500 range camera totally. In my process of consideration, there is a continuation factor that I was all along thinking of. After I found out there are Canon lenses at home, and having used those old style film SLR very often when I was younger, I chose Canon, despite knowing Pentax K-X is better. Ironic as it sound, I did not chose the better camera as i have other considerations and I will not be the only one using the camera. Yes, I do realise I can sell it, but I was contemplating the 'what if's, for example, what if I get other lenses, then I'd be selling more items at a loss. I read that Pentax lenses are generally cheaper and so I don't think the depreciation potential is that great, but still...
Nevertheless I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the sincere and patient advices which almost swayed me in my choice of camera. I must say, I sensed and am impressed that the K-X community seem to be closer knitted than say a Nikon or Canon user community. Anyhow, at the end of the day the camera is a device, a tool for us to fulfill our hobby, to seek self-realization. I thank all of you for the patient guidance, to a noob who asks dumb questions and in the end did not choose to join your ranks. Hope one day, even with my inferior 1000D I can take a night shot almost as good as those that were shared with me in this thread. In fact, I tried ytd night, and I found myself to have a long long way to go.
Speaking of choosing cameras, I'd definitely highly recommend K-X to any friends looking to take a step up in photography from PnS!

There is this element that knits the community together...
All the best with your Canon 1000D.
Don't worry , U still can join our pentax outing
I came from a Canon SLR background myself and had about 3 lenses in storage and a Nikon DSLR with 2 lenses. Instead of building up on my dad's systems, I started from scratch with Pentax K10D. Don't ask me why. I must have been crazy back then. :bsmilie:
The 1000D is decent enough. I know some people who do great stuff and get great results with it. The important thing is, have fun experimenting with whatever camera you have at hand. :
I hope those Canon lenses are EOS EF mount lenses and not FD mount.
Recently this friend's friend showed me his old Pentax gear and asked me if it was worth buying a Pentax DSLR since he had these lenses. They were some crappy fungus-ridden third-party consumer zoom lenses so I advised him to forget about his existing stuff and make his DSLR decision from scratch. Of course I recommended the K-7 and K-x but after hearing his requirements I think he'll end up with something else. None of my business though!

Hi there,
I'm looking to get a kx (red colour) but I understand that I can only get the dual lens kit with the black colour set. In that case, I'm planning to just get the red kx with the single 18-55mm kit. Now I would like to ask if I am able to use the Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 on the kx? Is the Tamron lens readily available with the k mount?
Thanks all!
I don't think there's a Tamron 18-200 for Pentax.Only heard of 18-250![]()
I beleive there is a tamron 18-200 at SLRR because i was deciding whether i should get the tamron or sigma one , but reviews showed the sigma abit sharper and its the smallest and lightest 18-200 ,so i got the sigma in the end ...![]()
