pentax lens are not expensive. they are either cheaper or comparable.

the limiteds are unique lenses though, don't think you will find a 31mm prime that easily for other brands...

just look at the pentax price list section.

you don't have to buy them , but they are beautiful nonetheless.

not at all... tamron and sigma lenses cost the same for different mounts.

also not meaningful to compare price of pentax lenses with C and N lenses cos its basically 2 different thing.

i've found the lenses to be great value and of outstanding quality so far

Dear all, I am a newbie looking to buy my first DSLR. After some comparing and reading hundreds of reviews, rejecting the ideas of getting the D3000, 550D, 500D and et cetera, I settle in part on getting a Pentax K-X and I thought this will be an appropriate channel to find out a burning question that is very important to me (I don't trust retailers who just want to sell the maximum profit camera).

I am thoroughly impressed with the image quality as you guys have pointed out here, and in other sites this had been proven again and again.

1. I hadn't seen much of night shots, I love taking night scenery shots, for example take a walk along Clarke Quay, I may find a certain building beautiful, does K-X do a good job for taking night scenery shots?

2. I understand that getting an D-SLR is like a marriage between you and your camera, where you have kits and equipment suitable only for the brand you've chosen, my main concern is not whether Pentax cameras have enough lenses (which I trust most mainstream brands have), but suppose one day my K-X breaks down but there are no other Pentax models which sufficiently impresses me, and I go for say a Nikon D-SLR. Can anyone advise me on whether I can fix the K-X kit lens on a Nikon camera?

Sorry for the long post, I'm a little long-winded, but I hope I get my question across, and I sincerely await advices. Thanks in advance!

Nice to see you considering pentax.I was in the same dilemma as you were except my options were 500d,550d and d90.

Accidentally came to pentax(thanks to clubsnap) and now i am very very satisfied with the kx and its lenses(18~55 kit and 50~200kit).For the same price C & N dont offer a 2nd lens.Tats y pentax is a good deal and a very wonderful camera too.

The kx is also comparable or better in terms of specs among the big brands.
You will never regret with kx so have a shot at it.

Yes, but I also realised that K-X is the standout camera amongst all the models of Pentax DSLR (regardless of prices). I was comparing using a website that may be familiar to some of you here.

Yet, that is why I'm in dilemma and set up this thread to clear some doubts. My doubts is not about the quality of K-X. It looks even more than enough for me at this stage. But subsequently, I'm worried I'd be stuck with K-X if Pentax doesn't come up with a equally capable successor? Maybe I worry too much, but such a good cam (and appears to be better than the other more expensive Pentax models) is hard to replace.

Not really. The entry level lenses are well priced but it is the premium ones such as the Limited or DA* lenses that shine and of course they cost a little more but that's the same for all the other makes too.

A camera that frequently updates its model doesn't mean its getting better and better.I too had the wrong perception.

The KX is indeed a good camera.But after i saw some senior members using the k7 i felt that i should go for it in the future.

You can be stuck with KX but upgrade your lenses as time goes by.

As to your question, for eg this Tamron 3rd party brand lens, it is available in different mounting (Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax), so it's not able to fit to other make of dslr. Same goes to another brand - Sigma.
I know of another brand Samyang lens is able to fit to different brands of dslr with the appropriate mounting adaptor.

I am also a newbie in DSLR... When I was searching for my 1st DSLR, I also had the same dilemma as you too... After reading lots of reviews and seeing lots of pics taken by different brands, I am convinced that K-x is the DSLR for me... Hence, I bought the Pentax K-x with DAL 18-55 and DA 50-200... After that, I never look back.. I am now a very happy and satisfied Pentaxian... LOL... Pentax K-x is the best entry level DSLR at a very affordable price... I know that my K-x will be staying with me for many years to come... Recently, I just saved enough money and get the FA 50mm F1.4.. It is a truly super solid performer!! The other prime lenses are still not within my reach yet... I will definitely get the DA 40 ltd one of these days... Hehehe... Hope that you will join the Pentaxian family soon....

Maybe, I'm thoroughly convinced with K-X performance, but seeing K-7 is slightly weaker in terms of low light ISO, I began to worry after beginner level, what would be my next step.

I think someone made a point along the way that this camera will follow for long, and seeing the IQ, i can see why is this so. Still the lingering thoughts and concern. But maybe, just maybe, I'll convince myself! The next time is for me to really go down to a shop and try handling it. I've only handled a few Canon, Sony and Nikon models. I personally prefer Nikon, but who knows, after I handle the Pentax I'd just buy on the spot!
