It seems that you got the basics correct. Exposure is fine, and you got the light trails. The next major thing to work on is the composition. Learning to compose a better image will lead to stronger and more impactful images. You've have to look around at other works and perhaps read some books to pick it up. Still, I assure you that it'd be well worth the effort!

Oh, don't worry about the lens. The 18-200VR is a very capable lens, not certainly no laggard. Besides, the lens isn't an important part of the equation right now.

And oh, about the flare. It does add character into the picture at times. Hehe... Personal opinion.

your last picture, on the top left area there is this bluish glow and the lens flare shows some reflection.

are you using UV filter? or any filter other than CPL?

a lesson i learn was that cheap UV filter can causes reflection of light between the filter and the front element of the lens resulting in a ghosting reflection of light. if your are using filter do try removing them when shooting at nite to avoid reflection of light sources in your picture.

the use of lens hood may also help block out lens flare if you r not using one. but not always possible.

Is it just me or all the pics appear to be tilted one side?

I think TS needs to make the light street more obvious.. so far, the ambient is a little too bright (for my taste). Maybe you can under expose the duration so the trails are there but the ambient is darker..

and of course shoot at another angle where the light don't shine direct into the lens else you get more flares..
BTW do you notice cars slow down when you take photographs of passing cars? One evening I mounted my camera on a tripod and sat down firing with a remote at 2am, and all the speeding cars slowed down, drove past and when they realise not police, sped off! :bsmilie:

yes.. i was using UV filter. Most of my frns and members here also told me that the filter which causes it.
Thanks for the advise.

Advise noted.. thanks!
and yes.. when i first bought my 70-200 VR lens during the day, I was trying to test and learning some panning shot with that lens. There were times i was at the curb site with bushes next to me and even at the bus stop and all the drivers in their vehicles who spotted me was shocked and slowed down immediately. Those who was driving in the bus lane changed their lanes too. I got stares from them..
Lucky no accident.. I sure run! :D
