need help - get a good prime lens or kit lens?

I'll advice a beginner starts lower to mid-end.. Granted that the best body will last probably longer in terms of features, but technology advances very fast.. Look at 550D and 50D..

Am using 450D fr quite some time and when I pick up my friend's 50D with 70-200, I returned it after 5 shots... Backache!!! I think compatibility and comfort r very impt, dun let the equipment kill ur interest...

I'd recommend something like 60D with 15-85 and flash. Should be well within the budget and from my experience, I'd rather use flash or bump up ISO rather than have a wide aperture because if you need to take group shots (high possibility with indoor + people), you don't want your depth of field to be too thin
