I have been through many setups over the years.
Now. I am back to a basic setup.

Speaker: Totem Acoustic Arro
CD Player: Blue Note Koala Tube
Amp: Leben CS-300 Integrated (Tube based)

I have stopped chasing after audiophile equipment.
It is all about the music now.
Only the music, your dad would understand.

And of course, there is photography.

That's indeed an expensive basic setup you've got there,all from Audio Note S'pore.thumsup

How are his charges? Just called him and didn't get any quote for prices even though he said the player requires a lens replacement.

Well i'm still open for more suggestions!

My dad using Rogers speaker to go with it by the way, damn good for listening jazz. Haha, I'm not a hardcore audiophile myself, but i'm keen enough to listen to whats good or not. Just dun know how to set up a hi-fi set myself.

To alot of people, your system is NOT basic,but worth every penny and maybe can be said "value for $$$"...haha. Enjoy ypur music guys...Lance armstrong said "it's NOT about the bike"..but in hifi and photography, nice equipment do help give us more satisfaction when using them.."shiokness"? "Basic" is an Asian thing...
When someone says you are doing well in business, you would deflect it and say no no...
When someone says you have a big house, you say, nah, its only a small one

The tube based Arro system is capable of lots of good sound, and is definitely not basic, but hey we are Asian

Anyways, I have a ton of stuff, I which I won't call basic, but TS, you will have a choice of a HT or stereo system to listen to

LoL...i'm the most musically inclined family member amongst my family,
naturally i would also understand the music as well.

Yep, my dad is the one introducing me to photography too.
Inherited his Nikon FE2 to shoot slides and BnW now.

By the way, cool Hi-fi setup...dun really know the parts
but looks quite power...

Ah, the "shiokness" of music but nowadays I have not as critical
as before. The term "basic" I used here refers to the number of
components in the setup. For some, a CD-based setup would consist of
CD Transport, DAC, pre-amplifier, power amplifier, power conditioner,
a set of cable system, isolation accessories and etc. It can go on
forever, the BBB virus in audiophile.

Now, I just enjoy the music with the minimum setup that is within my budget.

Its a LS 3a/5a. Why?

Petetherock...wats a HT system? Wats the diff between dat and a stereo system? Sorry, i'm an almost total noob in audiophile tech. I only have some basic paltry electronics knowlegde from my engineering degree i'm doing now.

no lah i keeping i've a pair of t27 tweeters too. rogers (richard allan) 3/5a is a fussy speaker, cannot drive too hard when i was into audio i got some spare parts just incase i killed any part of the speaker. 11ohms ls3/5a handles better than 15ohm though.

now i'm using a pair of spendor s3/5 instead but dont listen much anymore

Sure...will take time to read when i'm freer. Thanks! Someone now poisoning me to go audio. Photography quite pain already...but good to read up and know more, so in case in the future when i have the spare cash, I know where to put the money in.

For photogrsphy, you enjoy the equipment/process while u're taking photo...same for hifi, but I find myself using hifi equipment much more often than my camera....camera often stored inside cabinet nowadays...:bheart:

Well...its easier to listen to music...pop in your fav cd, sit comfortably...press play >>> instant gratification.

The Rogers LS3/5A is a classic. Originally cost about S$600 a pair from Atlas Hi-Fi during the 1970s, a good condition pair will fetch approximate S$2,000 now.

Your dad must take good care of them so that you can inherit them in the near future.

By the way, the Roger LS3/5A is a niche speaker. They are extremely fussy but once you drive them properly (with matching tube amps), they sound as sweet as honey.

Yes, S$2,000 for a used set.

There is a pair on sale at Audiophile Triangle now for S$2,200 (that is considered normal price) and they are not even in oak or rosewood, just the usual MDF cabinet. Just last month, there was another pair (older 15 ohm version) on sale at Zenn Audio for S$2,200 also.

wow.. thanks for sharing .. didnt know they have appreciated so much. Yes .. its a very nice speaker ... BBC used to use them as monitor speakers in their studios .. not sure if they are still using them . The LS3/5A is a classic
